The likely reason Rosenstein was at WH today, and it aint good

https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/3kj74j/heres-what-would-happen-right-after-trump-fired-mueller

Is your understanding that the president is correct in asserting that he has the power to fire the special counsel?
Technically speaking, the president would have to first repeal the regulation that is in place in the Department of Justice [governing Mueller's job]. Now, it is within the president’s power to direct the acting attorney general for this purpose—Rod Rosenstein—to rescind the regulation, and then [Trump] could direct him to fire Mueller.

Either Rod removes the reg or he doesnt. If he doesnt he is fired, if he does Mueller is fired. Either way Mueller goes.

Count on it. Today is Thursday, just saying.

polls currently overwhelmingly oppose the firing of Mueller or ending the investigation. If TRUMP fires Mueller the upcoming midterm bloodbath could turn into a truly seismic shift away from the Republican Party. They will always have their 30% base support from dead-enders, but they will lose everyone else who they haven't lost yet.

Trump could even get impeached, given the likelihood that we win the House in November.

November, we will take the House and send a strong message to trump and white wing senators. That is only 7 months away and by mid-summer the writing will be on the wall if we are lucky.

trump is a despicable man, no doubt. But his time is limited, even if he wins in 2020. It's really the voters who are inclined to vote for white wing racists that bother me. trump is just a symbol of that.

Trump can try to compel Rosenstein to fire Mueller or compel him to rewrite the regulation that governs the Special Counsel to allow him to fire Mueller.

The conventional wisdom is Rosenstein resigns first. I assume FBI Director Chris Wray and White House Counsel Don McGahn would resign too.

If he wants Mueller gone Mueller will be gone but at what cost.

I'm going to bet nothing found in Trump's lawyer's office implicates Pence in anything, and his name has not even been involved in the theories that have been floated by unnamed sources.

It would be nice if it were true, but I've seen nothing to indicate it's even a remote possibility.

However, Pence did head up the transition team and during that transition period is when a lot of the stuff involving questionable foreign contacts happened. So, in the fullness of time I would not be at all surprised if he is implicated in some things. Will he be removed? Nah, probably not, but it's not impossible.

By the way, I also doubt that TRUMP will ever be removed, other than by the voters in 2002, or because he simply gets sick of all the shit and quits.

But... were TRUMP and Pence to both be removed, which is not impossible, then...

He will be able to escape all consequences and then, emboldened, we will see him vigorously tear down as much of our checks and balances as possible.

All the while Republicans will watch quietly, hoping that this will somehow allow them to keep control of the government in spite of it being dismantled by the evil at the top.
