Sen Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) takes a Cato Institute rep to the woodshed - Disclose Act Hearings

From my email...

Last week, Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) showed why he's a national progressive rising star.
At a hearing on overturning Citizens United, Sen. Whitehouse faced an "expert" from the right-wing Cato Institute who advocated more anonymous campaign spending by corporations and billionaires. Whitehouse took him "to the proverbial woodshed," according to one news site.

At least in the past.

I was a proud Democratic officer in a big county party in KS in the 90's. But I voted for a Republican for US Senator twice, namely Nancy Landon Kassebaum, who was one of those wonderful Senators who made party irrelevant.

FYI, after she retired from the Senate, she married another former Republican Senator for whom I have some respect, Howard Baker (TN), who was prominent in the Senate Watergate Hearings, which everybody watched on TV because the networks preempted all their programming to cover. Baker is the Senator who coined the question, "What did the President know and when did he know it?" during those hearings. It became the very question which brought down Nixon's presidency.

Certainly, a suitable spouse for the former Senator from Kansas. Both were highly ethical and laudible statesmen. (Forgive the gender bias; it just doesn't trip off the tongue to say statespersons.)

I wish we could be so fortunate to have someone like him as one of our Senators.
