The looming debt caused by the GOP is now on the horizon. They will use it to shut down government as we have known it. The new GOP is really libertarian in actuality. And even if the Democrats get control, the GOP will obstruct like they did with Obama. Besides they will have either Trump or Pence to veto everything the Democrats pass to stop the damage.
The GOP is suicidal like a terrorist bomber who will blow themselves up because they did not get their way. We are a long way from being out of the woods. It will be at least 2-4 more years before there can be a course correction.

(23,102 posts)They don't love America or they wouldn't try to destroy our constitutional rights. They hate us, see us as fodder to make them rich and that is the only value. They want no schooling, no labor laws, including child labor laws, no restraints on business at all, no rights, no healthcare and a bunch of ignorant serfs working for next to nothing, ala Russia, and no healthcare so they die young. That is what they love, their own personal power and profits and that is all they love.

(11,119 posts)In Dickensian England, there were MAXIMUM wages for working people who made up 70% of the population. Working people didn't have steady jobs - they just showed up factories and waited in line every morning hoping the factory would need them to work for that day.
If you got sick or suffered from some chronic malady, unless you had a family who could take care of you, you were might as well be a goner...
People should check out Charles Dickens works - it's fiction but it also shows the daily struggle for life for working people/families in England compared to the lives of the (en)titled and merchant classes...
ETA: You can also find a lot about what working conditions were like for working people BEFORE unions were created here in the US.

(12,869 posts)... our entire working lives. These are earned benefits.
The self proclaimed "fiscally conservative" Republicans jacked up federal deficits with huge tax cuts for big corporations and their wealthy campaign contributors.
Their next step will be to convince the public that "entitlement reform" (cuts to SS, Medicare, Medicaid) is necessary because these "entitlements" are driving up the deficit.
This will be nothing less than a huge transfer of wealth from working Americans to the oligarchy pulling the strings. Republicans are the first to scream CLASS WARFARE when raising taxes on the wealthy is suggested, but the plain fact of the matter is they have been waging and winning class warfare since Reagan.
Now in the age of Trump and one party rule they see an historic opportunity to advance their thieving agenda by leaps and bounds.
