In case anyone is interested in knowing how the other side is spinning this.
Dan Bongino:
This Mueller witch-hunt is clearly a smokescreen to distract from both Hillarys misdeeds and Obamagate spying. This is an abomination of justice.
How do you even respond to something like that?

(115,706 posts)You don't. You just chuckle, roll your eyes and walk away, if it's said to you in person. Maybe you add, along with the eye roll, something like, "Yeah, whatever. If that's what you want to believe." On line, about all you can say is "LOL" and post a laughing cat. There's no convincing those numpties.

(41,984 posts)And the MAGas keep adding names of Democrats . Not one words regarding Trumps malfeasance. Its really weird. I dont like it when sides use the same language about one anotherie delusional, crazy, evil, misinformed, criminal etc. but thats what happens in a polarized argument.
The difference here is MAGas use conspiracy theories almost exclusively, and literally have memes in place of facts.

(48,955 posts)conspiracy theories (esp QAnon), and I think lays out a good case that on some level these folks realize there are real problems, real Serious problems with Trump - and have created an echo chamber alt reality to keep that cognitive dissonance at bay.

It's a good read. And one I have kept thinking about since I read it over the weekend.
Back in the preinvasion of Iraq days - the alt reality theories were spun from the WhiteHouse to keep the cognitive dissonance at bay that none of the 911 attackers were from or associated with Iraq. Only after the Abu Grahaib photos were leaked did more and more of the public (many who zealously once supported the war in Iraq for "Patriotism" ) began to open their eyes and see past that alt reality. By 2006 support was waning (and a big blue wave hit congress) and by 2008 -- most of the public recognized that the war was a mistake - and that we had been manipulated/lied into it.
Now the alt realities are created on line in the fringes - but the function is the same. Keep the cognitive dissonance at Bay. Looking at it this way, and remembering 2002-2006 (how long it took for public sentiment to shift) - I think the same dynamics are in play albeit in a different way. And that various awful events along the way will allow some of the folks we see steeped in this alt reality where Trump is a hero figure (the QAnon line) and/or the real villain is Clinton (the line layed out in the OP) to start seeing through the fog and working through the cognitive dissonance that yes - Trump is really, really THAT bad.
