Except that the fact that Mueller referred the Cohen investigation to the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, which he would have done only if Cohen's activities weren't related to the Russia investigation. That suggests that the money came from some other source.

To a conman like Trump, absolutely 100% chance he paid for it with campaign donations. His entire life has been about spending money that wasn’t his to spend. It’s in his DNA to spend campaign cash like this, he literally couldn’t help himself.
