The past 48 hours of big Syria news, explained by Vox

Why Trump might be about to attack Syria — again.

Syria used chemical weapons against its own citizens, killing at least 42 adults and children. President Donald Trump threatened a military response in a tweet, vowing that Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad would pay a “big price.” Israeli jets bombed a Syrian government base in northern Homs province for reasons that still are not yet fully clear.
And all of that took place over just 48 hours. And an American strike — Trump’s “big price” — could still be forthcoming.

New National Security Adviser John Bolton, a well-known uberhawk, started his job on Monday morning just before an 11:30 am Cabinet meeting. President Trump has vowed to make a decision on whether to use force in the next 24 to 48 hours, even calling out Putin by name for his support of Assad. Bolton could be a strong and powerful voice advocating for a US strike.

The Sunday airstrike on T4 — a Syrian military base in the western Homs province — initially seemed like the promised US response. That morning, President Trump had threatened Syria with retaliation, and now a major airbase was hit. Syrian government news said it was “American aggression...” But it turned out that this wasn’t correct. The Department of Defense denied responsibility; both Russian and American sources said the jets bombing T4 were Israeli, not American. The Israeli government has not explained the rationale for its attack, or even confirmed on the record that it was responsible, but, at this point, it’s fair to say they did it.

Cheeto said other people should sort out Syria last week. He almost green lit the use of force on civilians in Syria by his wavering bs on whether our troops stay or go. He clearly gave the impression of chaos at the center of American defense strategy. This situation is really bad with Israel,Russia, Iran, Syria on the brink of who knows what. The us has no plan just king baby. Now add Bolton. Wow this is not going to end well.

In lieu of strategy, it is governed entirely by presidential spasms and screeds. bronxiteforever Apr 2018 #4

The potential of a world war is of no interest to this board anymore.

Maybe this time he won't let the Russians know first like he did the last time. That way he can actually blow something up without the Syrians moving it beforehand.
