(52,243 posts)There's a great deal of data to be crunched and horse trading to be had and many complex considerations.
Tariffs are rarely symmetrical for the same product (unless they're zero). Most products are primarily exports of one country and imports of the other.
If China slaps a big tariff on something we export to them, it may make sense for us to have a tariff on a product they export to us -- nearly always a *different* product.
Yes, it is very complex. It is not my field at all, and to be honest, I don't always understand well when it comes to a high technical level.

The real story is the huge amount of Sub and Main Assemblies and other system components made in China exclusively.
