Her father, who leaves for work early in the morning, has stepped up to the challenge of parenting on his own. But there are a few aspects of having a daughter that remain baffling for him. One of them is her hair.

Then one day, she noticed that her bus driver, Tracy Dean, was braiding another students hair into a style Isabella admired. Isabella told KSL-TV she summoned her courage and asked Dean to give her a hand, too. Dean said shed be more than happy to. And the braiding began.
It makes me feel like shes a mom pretty much to me, Isabella told KSL. And it makes me excited for the next day to see what she does.

That said, a man should know his limitations. My single-mom downstairs neighbor floated the idea of me taking care of her kid in the morning. I said ok if she is ok with her being blown dry with a leaf blower and sent to school in a hat and sweatpants.

(4,033 posts)There are really an extraordinary number of truly wonderful people out there, who go about doing their jobs and being everyday heroes to other people. We rarely hear about them and they don't seek the spotlight because they don't see themselves as anything other than regular folk.
We have to be reminded during these dark days in Trumpistan that most folks are good. Thanks for posting this story. I needed it this morning.

They do not get the thanks they deserve . They get public criticism when something goes wrong.
They are probably not paid a living wage.

Selfishly, I love doing something to make some strangers day. I feel like a good person as a result - and Im sure the person on the receiving end feels good too.
That should be a slogan or something..,
Help others! Not because itll make some stranger feel special, but because youll feel better as a result!

No act of kindness is too small to do. That was a lovely braid!
Women get the importance and pride of hair. Growing up girls spend a huge amount of time on their hair, dress-ups, all just in play. As teenagers they vary it even more when they add makeup to their experimentation.
It would be a truly odd thing for a father to even understand that, much less help out.

(9,535 posts)Kids are better at this than you think. At 12, my daughter had her first "job" (tips only) assisting a professional hair braider at an ice rink for the competitors. She was able to do even the most complicated braids--hearts, Renaissance style,
French braids, all by herself as well as any adult.
