Which is doing more damage to our country - Donald Trump or the Republican Party?

Think about it.

Although Donald Trump is the most incompetent, most unstable, most uncaring, most dangerous President in our lifetime (including Nixon), it is the Republican Party and their leadership that refuse to offer any oversight to the threats from the Executive Branch. They are even more incompetent than Donald Trump, in many ways.

The Republican Party has put power and politics over the security of our country. Forget about freedom and democracy and freedom of the press, so long as they can get a huge tax cut for themselves and their wealthy followers.

Who is doing the most damage? In my opinion, it is Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan. They are the leaders that are leading us down the road to doom.

into our National discourse. When future Historians write about the demise of America, they will point to the revocation of the Fairness Doctrine as the beginning of the end.

Trump is doing more to ruin our reputation in the world.

Together, they are the worst possible thing that could have happened for everyone who isn't incredibly wealthy.

We rely on checks and balances, and if the job isn’t done, our nation suffers. Hopefully temporarily.

DJT enables the Republican party to do the things they've always wanted to do via ignorance of how the government is supposed to work, lack of respect for established convention where procedures are not written out explicitly, and willfulness to go along anything that damages the "other side". He is chaotic neutral, and "side" for him is malleable, depending on what he believes makes him look the best and get whoops and cheers of "'MURICA" from his base at his rallies. What makes "his side" look good (the converse of this) is much less important as the President is a petty and vindictive person who is more satisfied by claiming his victories on the low road rather than the high road.

The Republican Party is doing damage, being bulls in the china shop who have, prior to this administration, been shackled in soft restraints of "decorum" and "optics" and not wishing to be viewed as the latent racists and classists many of them actually are and always have been. They are freed of restraint since DJT is causing distractions, approves of dirty politics and is also a racist and classist.

McConnell and Ryan are his Iagos-in-crime, having more knowledge of the workings of government, and able to carry out the President's whims (when he doesn't get all squirrely on them) and their own agendas since Trump lacks curiosity of actual details so long as he gets what he wants.

Aside from making us look like fools before the world, Donald Trump has done virtually nothing, nor can he by the nature of his office. (A caveat applies, see below)

Whereas the GOP Congress are pushing out damaging bills as fast as they can write them, eliminating protections, selling off public land, dismantling labor and trade laws... the list goes on. And laughing at the fool in the WH along with the rest of us, as he puzzedly asks "what dis?" and rubber-stamps their rape of the Republic.

The caveat: Cabinet and Supreme Court (and other court appointments, when the Senate can get around to approving them). Cabinet departments actually have power to cause significant policy changes that effect programs on the ground, and the re-structuring of the Courts could have serious repercussions as some of the damage Congress is doing is challenged in lawsuits. That sort of power can last a long time, since judges serve on good behavior, not at pleasure.
