My brother was getting close to graduating and could have been sent to Vietnam.

While we were Baptists and taught that Catholics were not "the right religion" My family wanted the War over.

My brother graduated in 70 and his draft number was very low instead of being drafted, he enlisted and went to Germany instead of Vietnam.

My father hated Nixon and Ford with a passion He didn't like Johnson much either but that was out of fear of Vietnam.

He was truly a Union Democrat through and through.

He thought Reagan was an idiot and Bush the W was an idiot.

How he would have Loved Obama but I am glad he is not here to witness the drumpt idiot.

that was talking about that election and was basically saying that had RFK not been killed it wasnt a lock that he would've gotten the nomination. I guess the process back then was more about party bosses or something where Humphrey had locked up support. Even though he lost many of the late primaries, he still got the nomination.

But if RFK had not been murdered, and won the nomination and then the presidency, we would be living a different world than we are today.

in stemming inflation. But then again, the Arab Oil Embargo was always going to cause considerable damage.

The GOP might have headed into 1976 with a huge head of steam. And if we had won, the Reagan Revolution still might have happened in 1980.

To me, the better question is: "What is the GOP had won in 1976?" This could have happened if Nixon had been elected and we nominated someone other than Carter. It also could have happened if RFK served for 8 years and then there was Democrat fatigue. Maybe 1980 would have been a Democratic year, under those circumstances, and the Reagan Revolution would have been postponed.

I think Bobby would have been an INCREDIBLE President. Even if you ignore all the things he likely would have done as President, at the very least, he would have prevented Nixon from ever becoming President (as a 2-time loser, Nixon probably would not have given it a third shot in 1972), and that, in and of itself, would have been a massive improvement.

I remember after reading the book, Crossfire, back in late 80's early 90's, remarking to my mom about how the world lost a great leader when Bobby was killed. She said, "You mean JFK, right?" I said "Him, too, but no, I was talking about RFK." I can't even remember the specifics about what it was that I read, but I do remember coming away with a profound sense of loss. (To put this in context to my age, I was born in 1963, 5 months before JFK was killed.) I haven't been watching the CNN show, but I think I need to do that. Thanks for the reminder.
