Grassley: Farmers, ranchers shouldn't bear the brunt of retaliation against Trump tariffs

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) warned against the harm Trump's tariff actions could have on farmers and ranchers, insisting the administration knew that China would retaliate by specifically targeting the U.S. agriculture sector.

“The United States should take action to defend its interests when any foreign nation isn’t playing by the rules or refuses to police itself. But farmers and ranchers shouldn’t be expected to bear the brunt of retaliation for the entire country," Grassley said in a statement.

"It’s not fair, and it doesn’t make economic sense. The Administration knew that if it imposed tariffs on Chinese goods, China would retaliate against U.S. agriculture. I warned Trump as much in a White House meeting in February," he continued.

Iowa's economy is mostly ag products that the Chinese carved out - and many can be sourced elsewhere. So when the bully shoved his weight around Chuckles got the backlash.

Of course part of the problem is that Iowa has allowed itself to become monoculture.

Another side note on this is that Trumpy's ambassador to China is Iowa's former really shitty governor Terry Branstad.

BTW Chuck - I think China also hit the whisky makers and the oil industry.

Grassley has been a right-wing hack for years who has been serving the Radical Right’s and the Koch brothers’ agendas for years, not the interests of his constituents.

Iowa voters put sentimentality and dog-whistle politics ahead of voting for someone who’d fight for their interests when they re-elected this bum in 2016. I hope they’ve learned their lesson and will not repeat their mistake.
