President Dwayne Johnson? Comes Down To Two Words And Theyre Not Vin Diesel

In an interview for the May cover story of Rolling Stone, Johnson was asked about the stories that keep cropping up these last few years about the Rampage actor following in the footsteps of Ronald Reagan, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sonny Bono and Donald Trump. Rolling Stone cites a poll last year that had Johnson beating Trump head-to-head, 42 to 37.

So, will he?

The short answer: Don’t hold your breath.

“I mean, look,” Johnson tells RS, “people are very excited, and it’s so flattering that they’re excited. I think it’s also a function of being very unsatisfied with our current president. But this is a skill set that requires years and years of experience. On a local level, on a state level and then on a national level. I have the utmost respect for our country and that position, and I’m not delusioned in any way to think, ‘Oh, absolutely, if Trump can do it, I can do it, and I’ll see you in 20-whatever, get ready.’ Not at all.”

And:

“I think in a lot of people’s minds, what Trump has proved is that anybody can run for president,” Johnson says. “And in a lot of people’s minds, what he’s also proved is that not everybody should run for president. What I’m sensing now is that we have to pivot back to people who have a deep-rooted knowledge of American history and politics and experience in policy and how laws get made. I think that pivot has to happen.”

connections (Russia). As to the Republican Party who thrive on fearmongering, stealing and cheating, and have no sane ability in running a country nor governing it, I shall say, I'll pass on you Mr. Johnson.

My celebrity choice: SPRINGER - the humane, media savvy, common touch dude. Yes, the (now) MINOR scandal in the very distant past. Cf., items 2 & 3 above.

I saw a different thread earlier about it that I don't think had any links. This one makes it clear that he's thinking right in that you have to go through a path and experience whereas others think he'll just run right for the top spot.

I have zero interest in him as a political candidate at any level (I'd rather he keep making movies that I enjoy) but there's a lot of good stuff directly from him on the idea here.

When this idea was first floated, a couple months back when he and Kevin Hart were making the rounds promoting Jumanji, I thought it was a comedy routine the two worked out. When it sounded like he might be serious, I was disappointed. I must say, though, reading his words today I'm more impressed with the man than ever before. Good that he can see his limitations and those of others as well.

There was definitely something more serious and "appropriate" about what he talked about in the piece and presumably more in the magazine itself. I have no bones with those that want to get into the system and work their way up. Most of us just dislike the whole start at the top types. Hell, I wasn't even keen on Obama the first time around because it felt like he needed more experience before making that kind of run.

If only one-tenth of red state swing voters were this thoughtful and informed, 45 would never have been elected.

8. It is the recognition of his limitations

that would already make him a better choice than Trump.

Better as in "not as terrible an idea" but still a terrible idea
