America has had its share of crooks (Warren G. Harding, Richard Nixon), bigots (Andrew Jackson, James Buchanan), and incompetents (Andrew Johnson, George W. Bush). But never before, Donald Trump, have we had a president who combined all these nefarious qualities.
Americas great good fortune was, to begin with, the opposite a superb moral leader. By June of 1775, when Congress appointed George Washington to command the nations army, he had already become a moral rallying post, as his biographer, Douglas Southall Freeman, described him. He was,the embodiment of the purpose, the patience, and the determination necessary for the triumph of the revolutionary cause.

(5,210 posts)The big problems are voter suppression, Russian meddling, and targeted voter propaganda through Twitter, Google, Facebook, and other forms of social media. There is no question that the Trump campaign, through Cambridge Analytica, did this -- and that the Russians did this. The only question is how much they conspired together in the propaganda campaign.
We need to figure out how to defend the democratic process from fake news and micro-targeted AI propaganda -- or lose our democracy. https://www.democraticunderground.com/10029576691
And btw, the definition of nose-holder would be: someone who VOTES for someone they'd rather not have to vote for.

(794 posts)At some point Democrats will have to admit that those people were the product of Russian interference & that Sanders benefited from that interference just as Trump did.

(16,937 posts)when the population should be better educated and people are more aware of events as they take place (news 24/7) - there is NO excuse for having the least educated person ever hold the position of President.

(18,130 posts)Donald Trump is America's worst president, says a New York Times opinion piece that's based on a survey of 170 members of the American Political Science Associations Presidents and Executive Politics section.
The survey was conducted by Brandon Rottinghaus, a professor of political science at the University of Houston, and Justin S. Vaughn, an associate professor of political science and director of the Center for Idaho History and Politics at Boise State University.
snip-
The authors said the four years since the previous survey had other changes in rankings, with James Buchanan, who was at the helm as the United States careened into civil war, benefiting from the Trump era. Buchanan was dislodged from his position as our nations worst president by Trump.

(578 posts)30's but it never ceases to amaze me since I have been alive that the republicans always manage to elect presidents that tend to be worse than the previous republican president when it comes to causing damage. The only time that didn't apply was with Bush senior so I just ignore him like he doesn't exist. I was born during the end of Reagan's first term. Reagan was pretty shitty and started the economic destruction of this country. Fast forward to Bush who gave us two wars, increased debt by a ridiculous rate, and passed Reagan tax cuts. With Bush we got reaganomics with two shitty Wars, terrorism, finacial crisis, housing crisis, Enron, Katrina and increased gas prices. I felt Bush topped Reagan by huge margin. Now with Trump he took reaganomics to another level with his new taxes which he gives tax cuts to the rich and everybody else gets a tax increase unless they are upper middle class which is bunch of bs. That's some class stratification that not even Reagan or Bush could pull of when it comes to their shitty tax cuts. Trump has also weakened Obamacare, and is in the process of gutting Net Neutrality. Right now Trump could possibly top Bush with his upgraded Reagonomic tax cuts 2.0, gutted Net Neutrality, weakened health insurance. He's managed to do this in just over a year. Just imagine what other shitty things he will pull off.
From Reagan to Bush jr and to Trump. It just seems like each new republican presidents always manages to one up the other when it comes to destructive policies that harms the 99 percent and destroys the country. Trump is the worst president until the next republican president comes.

(50,303 posts)Reagan and Bush Jr. were pretty bad, but if you scale the damage by the amount of time Trump has been in office it's going to go off the charts.
