It's one thing to go to war and be responsible for thousands of deaths, but to deny AIDS and be responsible for thousands of deaths. I'll never forgive him for that.

(30,481 posts)The timing is interesting. Since the The Lion of the Senate is gone, this is just maligning the name. Just as another Kennedy is carving his roots.

(7,964 posts)I see the trailer every time I turn on the TV. I don't understand who their target audience is supposed to be.

(1,822 posts)when i see that hashtag at the end of all the commercials I'm like "yeah i'm sure it happened exactly as you're portraying it too. And this movie is catering to the right. It wont lose a ton of money. The right are a loyal fanbase, they'll come out and support it.

(26,648 posts)and we were talking about political criminal mischief. The Republican at the table said, yeah like Ted getting away with murder. They never let go. We shut her down, but I too hope this film's a big flop.

(28,082 posts)even when someone was maimed or killed was not treated as a "real" crime.
Too many of us (myself included I'm ashamed to say now) drove when we shouldn't have and it was only dumb luck that kept us from killing ourselves or someone else. In the early '70s a relative was involved in a drunk driving accident that killed the passenger in his car. He lost his license for 6 months and didn't face the expense or other consequences a person faces now just for getting pulled over for DWI.
The only thing that made this a big deal was that Ted Kennedy was involved.
I'm not excusing Kennedy (or my relative) i'm just saying that's how it was handled back then. I'm glad we got smarter and stricter about driving while impaired.

(26,648 posts)and you're right. I lived in CT where the drinking age was 21, but, less than an hour's drive was NY where it was 18. More than a few didn't survive the drive home. I'm glad we got MADD too.

(28,082 posts)and my blood now runs cold when I think of the drives back from Hudson, WI to the Minneapolis suburbs.

(17,956 posts)No flash. No extravagant use of CGI. No massive car chases. No explosions. No super heroes. It's DOA at the box office.

(28,082 posts)and given Nixon's hatred for Kennedy and knowing how low he could go, some of them make a person wonder just what the truth of it all was.
Or maybe it was just what we were told.

(15,512 posts)was already up to four in 1969 -- Joe Jr, Katherine, JFK and RFK -- making it hard to see this as just an accident, though there was probably an element of chance in it, like the passengers. But dirty tricks were given a lot of careful thought back in the day so I wouldn't rule anything out. This movie underscores how important the whole rotten business was and remains.

(3,784 posts)..............just as Joe looks to throw his hat into the ring. As soon as I saw the trailer for this movie, my first thought was, "They're scared to death of Joe and they're starting the smear campaign now."

(5,811 posts)It was an accident that killed a young woman. It was very sad for all involved.
This has nothing to do Joe Kennedy III. He's a teetotaler.
