Q: You, like the rest of the world, predicted Putin would once again win the Russian presidential election (he was re-elected on March 13). Is it hard to have hope when it feels like the future is already written?
A: I actually had Putin in my dream the last night: He was trying to be kind with me in order to persuade me not protesting against him, I assume. When we went to the nearest little shop with him to buy cigarettes, he said that he forgot his wallet, but he has his ways to make people give him things for free. I decided to pay by myself though.
Its not easy when Putin is a part of your reality almost through all your life. His system is penetrating your pores. Even when youre rebelling against him, after 18 years of Putin it takes constant conscious efforts to keep imagining the future of another Russia that should be possible.
Right now, our activism is about small victories. Through them we hope to make people believe that activists are not that useless as our current political structures. The main enemy is apathy and a belief that nothing can be changed. It should be slowly replaced with peoples understanding of the power of civil society.

(37 posts)1. I work with a handful of Russian guys, 20s to 30s
And none of them have heard of Pussy Riot, which I thought strange, they loved this video when I showed it to them
Are they apathetic? Are they interested in politics? What do they think of Putin?

(37 posts)5. They are slightly political
Or maybe not that comfortable speaking their mind yet, at least three of them are openly gay, so thats a starting point, Hey its Key West
But they all seem to know who and what Putin is, and they all laugh at my polonium jokes
