Minimum Wage Increase - Surely You Jest

To the GOP any talk of an increase in the minimum wage is a joke. A minimum wage is over regulation of business. We shouldn't have one. The "free market" is the only way to set wages and benefits. People will only take jobs that pay better. Don't you all on DU get the logic?

Labor laws kill jobs and profits. Get rid of all those nasty regulations and there will billions of new jobs. There will be a tsunami of new investment.

The conclusion was that every locale that had increased the minimum wage had experienced an economic boom.

Workers had more money to spend, the higher wage attracted more people to the area, and businesses had more customers.

Just give them credits for the company store. They'll load 16 tons and see what they get.

90% of all businesses would fold, the economy will crash and we all will be speaking Chinese within a year.

would be to commit to raising it slowly every month.

That way we could always halt increases if they're shown to actually hurt the economy but it's never fast enough to really cause any sort of upset and people/companies can adjust accordingly.

Confusion hurts the economy sure. Or unevenly applied standards. But regular predictable increases for everyone shouldn't.
