(12,072 posts)The Germans in WWII attacked Stalingrad, took most but not quite all of the city. The Soviets counter-attacked the flank of the Germans and after fierce fighting was able to encirle and cut off the German Army in the city. The Germans were never able to break the encirclement. After months of fighting the survivine few Germans surrendered.
Enemy at the Gates is an excellent movie depection from the Soviet side.
