General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsWhy the hell is Trump always called President Trump, and President Obama was just called Obama?
I hear this all the time on MSM, not often do I hear President Trump just called Trump. I used to think it was just me listening for what I wanted to hear ... but IMO it now seems to be a distinct pattern. I know, silly discussion, but it's one more bias IMO by MSM.

(22,037 posts)Here's a headline from today's NY Times:
"Trump Heads South, Leaving Washington Reeling"
This is the title of a column in the NY Post:
"The Beltway establishment is wrong again: John Bolton is a great pick for Trump"
And this is a column from the National Review:
"Republicans Still Dont Get Trump"
I agree with you that it can seem like the media are dissing President Obama and certainly Trump and other GOPers do this. As for myself, I will not use the title when referring to Trump. He doesn't even get a "Mr." because he's so despicable.

(32,006 posts)I don't think I have ever said "President Trump" out loud yet, and it pains me to type or or read it.
To me, he is nothing but a fake, a liar, an asshole. He does not deserve the title of POTUS.
One type of disrespect I always seem to notice is that when right wingers say "the Democrat party". It's DEMOCRATIC, assholes!
Sorry for the rant!

(47,501 posts)or "The President". It is always just "Trump". After he was sworn in, whenever I heard someone on TV say "The President", I thought they were talking about President Obama. Then the ugly truth set in and I remembered.
I take note of the people who don't refer to Trump as "president". It just doesn't fit.

I would put a smiley here but you know I am not laughing, but I am agreeing with you ...
In one AVERAGE day he commits more crimes, tells more lies than Obama and Hillary could do in a lifetime, yet they would have been impeached the first day of doing what he does.

(11,238 posts)just the last name after that. I don't know if that holds for television or radio media. But I doubt it's a matter of blatant bias. Unless you are listening to Fox and Friends or Rush Limbaugh, etc?

(23,350 posts)Many DUers referred to him as "PBO", using a letter for the title "President". I think there was some aversion to acknowledging his middle name "Hussein", or he would have been called "BHO" (Like FDR, JFK, DDE, HRC, ETC).
Maybe "Hussein" made him sound too Muslim or something.
Trump, of course, doesn't rate reference by initials. Nobody says "DJT". There are other names in use.

(13,912 posts)And it stuck. If MSM just started calling him trump OVER AND OVER AND OVER and never using the word president, that would stick.
Just using a last name is a bit of a putdown. Putting a title to a name is a bit of an elevation.
It's how "they" play the game... Like stating a disgraced republican politician is a democrat. The other is to use defamatory adjectives before the noun.
