It's official: Louise Slaughter will have Rochester train station named after her

Joseph Spector, Albany Bureau Chief Published 9:54 a.m. ET March 21, 2018 | Updated 10:18 a.m. ET March 21, 2018

ALBANY -- Amtrak has agreed to rename the Rochester Intermodal Station after late Rep. Louise Slaughter, who died Friday.

The station, which Slaughter fought for decades to build, will be renamed the “Louise M. Slaughter Intermodal Station in Rochester,” Sens. Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand said Wednesday.

Amtrak is expected to make the announcement later Wednesday.

Last week, Schumer, Gillibrand and Gov. Andrew Cuomo sent letters to Amtrak urging them to rename the station after the Fairport Democrat, who was first elected to Congress in 1986.
