BY KATIE BO WILLIAMS - 03/17/18 06:14 AM EDT
Attorney General Jeff Sessions is under mounting pressure from the right to appoint a second special counsel to investigate conservative allegations of abuse at the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the FBI.
Up to now, those calls have gone quietly unanswered, with officials pointing to the existence of a Justice Department inspector general investigation that is expected to wrap up sometime this spring.
But Sessions last week revealed that he has tapped a former official outside of the Beltway with many years in the Department of Justice to review the need for a special counsel, suggesting the idea is receiving a serious look.
Powerful GOP lawmakers are urging Sessions to pull the trigger, arguing the inspector general does not have the prosecutorial authority needed to conduct a full investigation of the FBIs actions.
Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) on Thursday sent a letter to Sessions and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein calling for a special counsel to gather all the facts.

(16,254 posts)Well, think back to how long and how many investigations you put Hillary through for nothing more than spending millions of dollars. You weren't concerned then. Keep your britches on...with this many people involved (and probably countries), not to mention the variety of crimes involved, it will take a while. If Trump isn't guilty, then what is the rush?
Mueller is thorough, which I'm sure is difficult for you to understand...especially after shutting down the recent investigation. If you want to look into anything, take the time to investigate that little fiasco. You looked like fools with the way that was handled.

(5,693 posts)because even with a Mueller firing and ending the probe, the FBI would continue to work on individual cases of suspected criminality related to the 'ended' investigation. So this counter probe would effectively halt any efforts to continue anything Trump related.
