March 16 (UPI) -- Former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton fractured her wrist after she slipped in a bathtub at Umaid Bhawan Palace in India.
The former first lady suffered a hairline fracture while on a three-day private tour of India. An X-ray and a CT scan conducted at Goyal Hospital confirmed the injury.
A team of doctors attended her at the Umaid Palace, leading her to cancel a scheduled visit to the 15th century Mehrangarh Fort.
The fracture comes after Clinton nearly slipped and fell twice while climbing down a stone staircase at Jahaz Mahal in Mandu in Madhya Pradesh.

Hillary Clinton fractures hand on India trip
NEW DELHI: Hillary Clinton has fractured her hand during a tour of India, reportedly slipping in a bathtub at a luxury hotel in a former palace.
A doctor at the private Goyal Hospital told AFP on Friday that Clinton had undergone screening after suffering pain in her right hand following a fall.
The 70-year-old former presidential candidate was staying at Umaid Bhawan, the palace of the former royal family of Jodhpur in western Rajasthan state, now a spectacular heritage hotel.
"We did a CT scan and X-ray and found a hairline fracture around the wrist area. She was advised to take rest for few days and use a crepe bandage for support," said the doctor on condition of anonymity.
Local and international media quoted unnamed sources as saying Clinton had slipped in the bath in an accident that comes just five months after she broke her toe in London.

I broke my left wrist once when I was just standing outside on roller skates. Most inconvenient!
I tripped over a folding chair at a barbecue and fractured my wrist many years ago. Hairline fractures are very painful. Gat well hillary.

Did you have trouble walking then? How long did it take to heal? I'm always running into things but I immediately go to the freezer and get an ice gel to put on it for 20 minutes.

(42,332 posts)I was exercise walking a lot at the time and had to give that up for a month.
For the next year, I could tell when a storm was coming.

Really, that works for incoming storms?
Same happened when I got a stress fracture in my other foot. It'd just start aching when a storm was nigh.

My spouse is a veteran ER nurse and she was like: "Thats bad."
Then one time I was watering plants in our back yard and the hose was stuck so I gave it a yank and it turns out it was stuck by being wrapped around my ankle. I went vertical like an old Bugs Bunny cartoon and fell flat on the ground.
I ripped tendons and hairline fractures on my foot on that one. 5th Metatarsal. Still have problems with that 5 years later.
I am a walking disaster area sometimes.
I hope Hillary heals quickly because I don't.

Cha
(297,240 posts)I was just in Indio for a year and a 1/2.. I was with my boyfriend at the time.
I loved it there, though.. the California desert.
Maybe we were there at the same time?!
So no...but it's funny, until not too long ago, nobody ever mentioned those places then boom...it's like the happening spot of the world...go figure

Roller skates, eh? It's hard to work the skate key with a broken wrist.

(3,702 posts)One of those elliptical onces, I reached to grab one of the handles (so you can work your arms while pedaling) to stop it and instead smacked my hand hard. Got a "boxer's fracture" - the ER doctors said they usually see that type of break in young men after punching walls or faces.
I was 40, female, fat and just trying to burn some damn calories.
I fall all the time, usually just standing still (so with wheels on my feet...definitely scary) so I'm kinda used to random injuries, but this was unexpected even for me.
Cha
(297,240 posts)worst! Your hand all better now, I hope!?
Never do that again, eh?
I think it's cathartic that we're all talking about out past injuries.. I know it has been for me.
Thanks Hillary!

(3,702 posts)that was a few years ago - I have to get back to the Y and exercise more.
My hand healed well - I was so touched when the doctor said a "young" woman like me would heal in no time.
I think the fear of falling - or hurting yourself in some klutzy way - makes things worse.
I'm pretty sure everyone can relate to looking down a flight of sketchy steps and thinking - oh dear, this cannot end well. I am so glad Hillary had people with her.
Cha
(297,240 posts)good on ya!
I can relate.. and, it looks like Hillary wore the wrong shoes. I can relate to that also. My kids took me on a hike last summer, and I thought we were just going to the beach, but it was a swimming hole by the Ocean that was down a steep, sketchy decline with jagged rocks and slippery mud from a recent rain.
If I had known I wouldn't have worn sliders.. I would have brought my running shoes. I thought one slip and it's all over, man! I didn't want to ruin anybody's fun.. so I made sure I didn't fall. If I ever go there again.. I'll have the right gear, and I won't have a bag with so much beach stuff in it!

As I get older, I've taken up regular yoga, mostly for balance. I hate to admit it, but it's harder for me to do things that were easy 50 years ago. I can actually see now why hand bars in tubs are useful.
It's really cool to see Hillary out there representing the best of America and enjoying life.

(2,857 posts)The other 75% was those ridiculous old steps. They had chunks out of them and they weren't even the same heighths. No handrail I understand because of the age but I would not go up them to begin with or I would plan on sliding down them on my butt intentionally.
Must have been scary for her.

Sancho
(9,070 posts)She was going down steep stone steps without a handrail and with worn edges. I didn't think she looked frail. I think she clearly stepped on the uneven edge of steps and her shoes were slipping.
The local helpers were there because they must have seen people have issues with those steps in the past.
When she got to the bottom, she was walking normally. This was an example of the RW jumping on some conspiracy, and it was nothing.
I understand. It's just that I've seen that video posted all over rw sites, sometimes looped. Kind of like the one where she was being helped into the SUV a couple of years ago.

(297,240 posts)Hillary obviously went through a falling stage.. glad it wasn't so bad.. hopefully the 3rd time is the end of it.
I've had stages like that myself. I call myself a klutz.. and then it's over. Until the next "shit happens" come along.

(25,531 posts)The last time was when I tripped and thought I could recover but lurched forward, eventually realizing that I could not fight gravity and gave in and went down. Bloody knee, groceries and belongings scattered. Luckily there were no witnesses. Thinking of slippery shoes, I relive the humiliation of a spectacular tumble in college while going down the library's carpeted stairs. I slipped and caught myself, slipped again and went down, my dress riding up to display my underwear which of course was my worst pair, grandma high rises. And of course the boy I had a crush on was right there. The librarian said she'd never seen anyone fall down the stairs so dramatically. Well. I hate shoes. There is always trouble.
Cha
(297,240 posts)in the past! At least the stairs were carpeted, eh.. to lessen the blows. But you did have to be wearing a dress when you had your spectacular fall, and your grandma underpants. you poor thing.. humiliation at the time.. can you laugh at it now?
I won't go into my falls.. hasn't happened lately, so Knock on wood! I just keeping running into things.. leaping before checking out all the possible ways I can scrape myself.. have a bandaid on now from a fresh draw of blood last night. smh!
Tripping is the worst.. like "who put that there when I wasn't noticing?!"

learned to do a prat fall by accident. long story. but it has come in handy.

(3,702 posts)Injury...mainly don't fight it and go limp. But again, I fall so often that I'm kinda used to it. I was walking my German shepherd last summer and tripped on a dandelion, blade of grass, air?? and like the pro I am...managed to hang onto the leash (busy road and fear of my dog getting spooked and running into traffic), fling the full poop bag off to the side so I didn't face plant in it and made sure not to break my glasses on the stone retaining wall next to where I fell...in a split second.
I also once slipped on sheet ice stepping out of our car while holding a bottle of wine...managed to fall and still keep the bottle clear and intact.
Those stairs in the video...I would have either just said fuck it and sat my ass down scooted or taken off my shoes. But HRC is classy and handled it way better.
People wonder why I prefer going barefoot...I trust my feet more than shoes.

(63,221 posts)of it. It's true that once you get to be a certain age that your sense of balance diminishes and your bones are more brittle (especially if you are a woman). I am 25 years younger than she is and I have already noticed my sense of balance going. I always use the handrail, especially when going downstairs.
It's completely normal and natural. It's obvious that Trump has the same problem with stairs as well. I would love to see him take a major digger, lets see how the deplorables deal with that!
