General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsFor me this isn't about McCabe's pension
It's about the willful destruction of our established governmental intuitions. The destruction of large swaths of our Federal Government.
That is the real danger here.
Regarding public pensions:
The Republican Party has worked towards, and in many cases succeeded in, diminishing, lessening, and eliminating public pensions.
A party McCabe claims to be a "lifelong member" of.
No tears from me.

(194 posts)If he doesnt have a position outside the government or some book deal lined up Id be very surprised. He didnt lose his pension either. He just isnt eligible for early withdrawal anymore and may not get the law enforcement bonus. He can still draw his pension starting at age 57.

(15,286 posts)You work hard, follow the rules, put in the time, then the benefits promised when you started are pulled out from under you at the last second. Everyone should be angry about this.
McCabe isn't the first employee to be fired before being eligible to collect a pension, companies have been known to get rid of older employees shortly before they become vested in the company's retirement benefits to save money. Obviously saving money wasn't the motivation with McCabe, but it's the same effect.

and my pension was frozen over a decade ago, (heck, I have worked TWICE as long as McCabe) so please do not lecture me about FAIRNESS

(32,084 posts)But, I agree. The real egregious aspect of this is that it's just further diminishing of a law enforcement agency--all in an attempt to keep his own ass out of prison. AND, it diminishes public pensions.
The only reason McCabe seems to be a sympathetic figure here is because of who is screwing him over. He is one of Guilliani's little toadies from the corrupt New York Bureau. This is what you get for helping push that bullshit e-mail scandal on us, you fucking asshole. Lie down with dogs...
