Ohio Anti Abortion Law overturned . From Columbus Dispatch

"A federal judge Wednesday blocked an Ohio law that would outlaw abortions when the woman's reasons for the procedure is a fetal diagnosis of Down syndrome.

"Federal law is crystal clear," Judge Timothy S. Black of the U.S. District Court of the Southern District of Ohio wrote in a 22-page decision.

"A state may not prohibit any woman from making the ultimate decision to terminate her pregnancy before viability ... here, Ohio's new law wrongfully does just that: it violates the right to privacy of every woman in Ohio and is unconstitutional on its face."

The law, which was signed by Gov. John Kasich in December, was to take effect March 23. Black's decision blocks the law's implementation while the case is decided.

Well well.

If you're an Ohioan upset about this, you really need to direct your ire at the state legislature and the governor who passed this bill into law. Their incompetence in writing legislation is appalling, wastes everyone's time and money, and keeps other things from being done.

4th and 14th amendments conspire to keep a woman in control of her own womb and keep the government out.

Down's Syndrome child from birth to it's natural death? Many of them never become completely independent. It was a sick law from the beginning.

for life.

That's one of the things that's always annoyed me about Right-to-Lifers: their stunning lack of awareness -- or, really, their unwillingness to acknowledge -- that your responsibility as a parent (esp. mothers, as a rule) do NOT end magically at age 18. Hell, they barely end at death.

Actually, most of them don't think at all. They think we are the emotional ones, but we think things through and consider the long term effects on society and the individuals in it. You are right, they have a stunning lack of awareness about the reality of almost all situations.

no imagining here.

It's a hard life. Sure, other people have it worse, but the long term feels pretty bleak.

Yep, misogyny is alive and well.

And this is exactly why the GOP is ramming federal judge nominations through.
