(3,515 posts)When he smiles, the whole world turns happy. He is just so fully into it.
I'd hate to be one of his kids when he gets mad. I bet it's just as fully father behind the frown.

(11,650 posts)Who appeals to the lowest common denominator. Surprised he wasn't the target of a 3am tweet storm. Probably because Hawking didn't have a TV show like Oprah

(15,299 posts)Via HuffingtonPost and the IBT (https://www.huffingtonpost.com/dorian-de-wind/stephen-hawking-defines-d_b_10231856.html):
Of course, everybody knows that the brilliant cosmologist, scientist, theoretical physicist and best-selling author, Stephen Hawking who suffers from Lou Gehrigs disease was born in England, lives in England and has been treated by the English National Health Service which, by his own account, saved his life.
When this gigantic blunder was roundly discredited, the IBD backtracked without even acknowledging that the NHS had kept Hawking alive.
Well, on Tuesday, on ITVs Good Morning Britain, the great explainer of cosmic mysteries, according to the New York Times acknowledged a mystery that he has found impenetrable.
When asked to explain the political ascendance of U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump, Hawkins simply said I cant....He is a demagogue who seems to appeal to the lowest common denominator.

(4,291 posts)Sorry to remind everyone of a truly disgraceful visual from the campaign to elect Cadet Bone Spurs, but we need to remind ourselves and others what the 2018 mid-terms is all about.

(20,692 posts)for Hawking:
1. He knew conversation was difficult and so levelled the playing field by just smiling.
2. Get got close to him, which is everything when you are avoided most of the time because of disability.
3. He didn't bend over, which might have seemed less than respectful to another man
4. He put himself within Hawking's reach but in this photo, kept his hands out of the way, since Hawking can't use his. He knew that other people have to care for Hawking and that it must be embarassing, so Obama didn't get that far into his space.
It was the perfect, friendly, but respectful posture and position. Genius. Pure feeling wanting nothing in return.
