Democrat Conor Lamb Says Attack Ads Against Him Backfired: People Were Tired By Trump Rally

by Aidan McLaughlin | 8:33 am, March 14th, 2018

Conor Lamb, who NBC News declared the “apparent winner” of Pennsylvania’s special House election on Wednesday morning, appeared on CNN to discuss the nail-biting race.

And New Day host Alisyn Camerota asked the Democratic candidate about President Donald Trump’s contention that he is “better looking than him.”

“Lamb the sham,” Trump dubbed the Democrat at his weekend rally in Pennsylvania in support of the GOP candidate in the race, Rick Saccone. “I hear he’s nice looking, I think I’m better looking than him,” Trump said.

After playing a clip of those comments for Lamb, Camerota asked why he thought “Lamb the sham didn’t take hold?”

Finally, the voting public is forming a consensus: Drag him off the stage. He's toxic.

Didn't absentees break better for Lamb than the proportion of live vote?. This implies to me they may have been disgusted by campaign tone but results would not have been this close if scumbag hadn't gone there. I know, MOE, but it was closer than last poll. Btw why does the MOE always get eaten up against us vs for us??

From some of the analysis, Lamb was able to get some extra turnout in Allegheny County (compared to 2016) where his base is and that helped to offset.

the absentee ballots - applying the proportion they got in the live vote, we weren't getting anywhere near 641 margin they are showing this morning. So this implies he outperformed on the absentees - which implies people were unhappy with Saccone prior to dipshit showing up. Although, guess the 641 will decrease a tad since the provisionals, (some?) military, and 200 Green County absentees still out.

Sorry for the wonk - it was just they some of us were SO into the numbers last night - and then this morning - there's nothing about the number crunching from the very end.

9. From what I recall Kornacki saying about the absentees
Wed Mar 14, 2018, 10:07 AM
Mar 2018

was that based on the past, they tended to generally favor Democrats. When I went to sleep overnight ~ 2:30, the margin was around 500-something. Then Washington County absentees came in this morning with Greene County still out. So that was one part of the shift. With what is outstanding, there really won't be that much of a change to suddenly flip the results - even with the provisionals (I think they said there may have been something like 1000 or so of those - mostly in Allegheny county, which is his base).

Since this was an open seat with no incumbent running, I think it was a combo of those not liking Saccone and some extra turnout by Democrats in the district.

it added to the "500-something" to become 644 this morning. I went to bed before Wash Cnty absentees and Lamb led by 579 (probably the 500-something you are talking about)

Wash Cnty live vote came in at 54 to 46 rounded - favoring Saccone
If you extrapolate the absentee of 1195 votes
that would be an additional 96 for Saccone which would have dropped
Lamb's lead 579-96 = 483. But, this morning Lamb led by 644 !! So, something else happened

I know, he won, so why am I still obsessing over these numbers? nutty I guess.

but from what I recall of Kornacki's near manic calculations (mind you, I was listening to this on the radio vs on TV), I think he was ball parking that with 1300 absentees and based on both the past absentee trend (which skews higher for Democrats) and the dropoff from the Drumpf win, then it was something like 46% of them would go to Saccone which would give him about 552 and most of the rest would go to Lamb ~600 something.

Before the latest tally came in (I still have the separate tabs up) this is what I saw early this morning (from here - http://www.electionreturns.pa.gov/ )

18th Congressional District

LAMB, CONOR
(DEM)
49.83%
Votes: 113,111

SACCONE, RICHARD
(REP)
49.57%
Votes: 112,532

MILLER, DREW GRAY
(LIB)
0.6%
Votes: 1,372

When I refreshed in a new tab, I get -

18th Congressional District

LAMB, CONOR
(DEM)
49.84%
Votes: 113,813

SACCONE, RICHARD
(REP)
49.56%
Votes: 113,186

MILLER, DREW GRAY
(LIB)
0.6%
Votes: 1,379

It eventually came out that Lamb got 702 more and Saccone 652 more - so am also thinking this includes the Greene County votes now too (there were something like 200 of those out and they were probably evenly split). So the whole argument being that Saccone could not catch up with what was left (i.e, the absentees), and it is doubtful the provisionals will be enough as those tend to come out of the more urban areas.

They had the numbers of absentees long before MSNBC. Think they have better infrastructure and connections on election nights.

BUT. CNN had 3000 out. So even if you added 203 frim Greene to MSNBC..still way off.

But never mind that....Kornake had info CNN did not....that absentee ballots trended toward Dems. Evidently that was correct! Wish we could watch with John King at the map and Steve on analysis. CNN especially with Wolfe is a lot more conservative with any theory ideas.

John King has been "at the map" for a long time now - at least since 2008. Kornacki not as long. King had irked me over the years but in any case, I was monitoring while lying prone in the bed with the covers over me, lights out, and the radio on, and didn't feel like changing the SirusXM channel to my CNN preset.

who the underdog is - he's always trying to show how either side could potentially win. But - zero theorizing - which of course - we want !

First, Trump was trying to parachute in too late to make a difference, and "Lamb the sham" didn't take because CNN, Fox, and the rest of the popular media didn't have enough time to promote it like they did "Little Rocket Man" and "Lying Hillary." The question remains, why do the popular media parrot Trump's childish insults so much? Why don't they call his childish insults childish and insulting, instead of lending them credibility by uncritically repeating them?
