Tillerson's dismissal and Exxon's departure from the Russian Arctic

Last edited Tue Mar 13, 2018, 04:51 PM - Edit history (1)

I have a question. Has anyone seen any articles or editorials discussing the Exxon pullout from Russia and Putin's reaction to it, if any? Here's a link to the information about Exxon leaving because of the difficulties of pursuing this deal with sanctions in the mix: https://www.dallasnews.com/business/exxon-mobil/2018/03/02/exxon-pulls-joint-venture-russia-citing-expanded-us-sanctions. There are other articles as well, but this has no paywall (I think). The articles were published around the beginning of the month. Google listed an RT article but I don't click on RT on principle.

My impression is that this got little play at the time the articles came out. At least, I missed it. While I'm certain neither Putin nor Trump like Tillerson's statement about Russian involvement in the Skripal poisonings, this pullout might matter more to Russia. I don't relish conspiracy theories (okay, sometimes I do), but it seems as though Russia might blame Tillerson for his inability to make the partnership work. Could Putin have demanded Tillerson's head for that?

On edit, here's the link again. I hope this works:

He didn't get done what he was supposed to get done. Turns out he wasn't willing to be a traitor, after all. Not quite.

once the Obama sanctions were lifted.

That didn't happen so he was of no use, especially since his running of State was horrible and of no consequence.

And btw, trump was supposed to get a piece of that trillion dollar oil field development so we know he doesn't like that Tillerson's old company pulled out.

money replacing seasoned diplomats he let go, because he wanted to run everything himself. Rather than have seasoned diplomats prep for the negotiations and handle the North Korea in a professional manner, Trump now thinks they don't need to waste a lot of time preparing for negotiations and he thinks he's the 'Great Negotiator' himself. So instead of doing the prep work, the Dotard is going to barge in there like he's done with all the negotiations he's been involved in with the GOP Congress and f*ck things up and then blame everyone else.

For all the reasons you state re: ExxonMobil/Rosneft mega-deal. I don't believe Trump was allowed to fire Tillerson and it's only been the break with ExxonMobil that compelled Putin to finally let him go.

Rex had already been involved in the russian oil: THat's why he got the job. They're grifters, ALL OF THEM!

Rex is moving on to make some real money with a better caste of mobsters.

So, yeah, I'm not surprised that Putin, and therefore DOTUS, have no use for him.

The TV pundits need to be discussing this.
