Yesterday Tillerson says Russia is behind the nerve agent attacks in the UK.
Today Trump fires Tillerson.
Just after that Trump fires McEntee, his long time personal assistant for "security" issues. Fired him so fast, McEntee couldn't even take his jacket as he went out the door.
WTF is going on in that loony bin?

DISTRACTION.

(146,317 posts)a huge major story to occupy their time today, so nobody will notice the loss in PA and the firing of his personal assistant.
It will work, too. We're going to have to watch those other stories closely, because they won't be featured on the news.

(146,317 posts)I think he was planning to dump Tillerson, but made the decision today because of the potential for diversion.
However, I'm just guessing, really. Who knows what is churning around in Trump's mind?

(8,758 posts)Almost immediatly Trump and Tillerson had bad chemistry. And Tillerson has to be courted, heavily, for the job. He's probably the most reluctant SoS America has ever seen. I'm surprised he lasted this long.
But the timing suggests Putin barked at Trump in the back channel because the Brits are up in arms over Putin's clumsy assassination on their soil so all this is Trump's ham handed 'damage control'
Trump may be a 'useful idiot' for Putin, but he's also an incompetent idiot.

(13 posts)And that's why Putin probably "barked" at Trump to get rid of Tillerson. What use is he now since the sanctions remain in place and the windfall Putin was planning to get from working with Exxon is not going to happen?
And remember, it was Pompeo who met with the 3 Russian spymasters a few weeks ago? How compromised is he? (answer: extremely)
Always, always follow the money with these fiends. [link:https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/exxon-mobil-withdraws-from-russia-deal-due-to-sanctions/2018/03/01/eb744566-1d56-11e8-98f5-ceecfa8741b6_story.html?utm_term=.c55169c952e2|]

(42,334 posts)The PA election will still be news, especially if Lamb wins.
What won't be so big? The House Intel Committee's silly report. Y'know the one that says "no collusion?" That Dotard purportedly ordered released now?
Once again, this White House has stepped on its own message.

(22,037 posts)He had no idea that his whole life and business would come under scrutiny. He's fought fiercely to keep his dealings private but it's a battle he's already lost. Robert Mueller probably knows all of Trump's dirty and illegal activities and is constructing an indestructible case.
If Trump had not run (and won), he would still have his businesses and his criminality wouldn't be under scrutiny. He could golf as much as he wanted to-- well, I guess he does that anyway-- and he could galavant with porn actresses and hookers and no one would care.
But now, he's exposed himself to great peril and possibly jail.
What a foolish man!

(28,394 posts)These rumors have been floating around for months, even the part about Pompeo being his replacement. At least trump hired a career CIA officer to fill the position at CIA and not some crazy loyalist.
Don't know about McEntee though.
Andrew Pudzer is on MSNBC saying that if asked, he would serve as economics advisor. He was once the nominee for Sec. of Labor.

He's probably trying to show he's free of Putin. Wait until Putin calls back all his loans.

(58,785 posts)WaPo reports the president's campaign announced this immediately after McEntee was escorted out. It's so far being claimed Trump "fired" him for security reasons, but how likely is it that TRUMP was concerned about security? Something blew up/happened, and Trump lost another one from his long-time circle.
Also,
We need the help of proven leaders such as Katrina and John to promote the Presidents growing portfolio of achievements across the country. campaign manager Brad Parscale said in a statement.

New: Trump's personal aide Johnny McEntee was fired because he is currently under investigation by the Department of Homeland Security for serious financial crimes, a source familiar with his firing tells @kaitlancollins
Who knows what to believe anymore!

(58,785 posts)is a requirement for Trump circles. Trump wants and need people around him who admire and assist his criminal and disgusting behaviors. No earnest Charlie Youngs need ever apply. That goes for the WH sewer, the Trump Org sewer, and of course the Trump campaign sewer.
Reportedly, many of those who were similarly unable to stay in the WH, or had to be bounced during the transition, are shifted to the campaign, still in the Trump orbit and still being paid for by "the people," only his donors in that case.

(32,645 posts)...But John Kelly is getting rid of everyone in the White House who doesn't have security clearance. McEntee was never cleared I guess, so he has to go. But what about the Jarvanka kiddies? They don't have security clearance, neither do any of the Trump clan.
I'm sure John McEntee will have some good stories to tell. I smell another bestseller book.
