Trade War Prospect Shakes Part of Trump Base: Midwest FarmersRural voters voice concern that retaliation against tariffs could take aim at American agriculture, which posts a trade surplus.
By MONICA DAVEY and PATRICIA COHENMARCH 10, 2018
The worlds already awash in grain, Mr. Gould said, and then if you lose a key customer its big. Theyre going to go somewhere else to buy it.
Thats a tangible threat throughout the Midwest, which accounts for roughly half the nations agricultural output, a prime target in any tit-for-tat response to the tariffs announced by President Trump. Unlike the rest of the economy, farms deliver a trade surplus for the United States, and a trade war could put barriers around lucrative markets.
Mr. Gould, 76, is a longtime Republican, and like a large numbers of farmers, he voted for Mr. Trump. But several of the presidents policy positions, like curtailing crop insurance, have run counter to agricultural interests and perhaps none more than trade.

edit: The hubris these people have to think they are somehow above/apart from everybody else. I'm so sick of these assholes crying when the shit they support fucks them over. We keep telling them this shit is no good for us, yes us, because everything that happens in this country has always been about us.
All truth be told, I don't want to see them lose out to other nations in selling their goods. We are all Americans and their success is our success, or it should be. When they keep on with this asshole notion that things happening to "other" people have no effects on them. This is what the eventual outcome always is. It might take some time to arrive at your door step, but the outcome is on the way from the very first day.
