A terrifyingly sad Facebook Post that shows the trauma gun culture puts school kids through...

I saw this shared on a friend's FB page. I don't know if this has made the rounds yet or not but I had to share. I won't share the posters name but it was a public post so it's not private. This is from a teacher.

""
Today in school we practiced our active shooter lockdown. One of my first graders was scared and I had to hold him. Today is his birthday. He kept whispering "When will it be over?" into my ear. I kept responding "Soon" as I rocked him and tried to keep his birthday crown from stabbing me.

I had a mix of 1-5 graders in my classroom because we have a million tests that need to be taken. My fifth grader patted the back of the 2nd grader huddled next to him under a table. A 3rd grade girl cried silently and clutched the hand of her friend. The rest of the kids sat quietly (casket quiet) and stared aimlessly in the dark.

As the"intruder" tried to break into our room twice, several of them jumped, but remained silently. The 1st grader in my lap began to pant and his heart was beating out of his chest, but he didn't make a peep. Eventually, the principal announced the lockdown was lifted.

I turned on the lights, removed the table from in front of the door, opened the blinds and announced "Let's get back to work. " I was greeted with blank faces... petrified faces.... tear stained faces... confused faces... elated faces...and one "bitch REALLY?" face.

This is teaching in 2018. And no... I don't want a gun. #teacherlyfe

When I was a kid we had bomb drills, but the bomb never came & soon the drills stopped. Now, every few days the reality of a school shooter is on the news. If I were of child bearing age, I'd be looking to move out of this country.

Where threats to the health & safety of our children are met with even bigger threats to the health & safety of our children - this time with official approval.

and I'm considering a move out of the country.

The obsession with guns in this country is beyond out of control. What is the matter with Americans
that they are willing to allow this carnage to continue?

man with a murderous killing machine, where the children know what is coming.

And post it.

Then follow up with the same "trained" kids responding to actual full on surprise shooting scenario.

And post that.

End of "arming the teachers" insanity.

In the bomb drill, the bomb "never happened." At least, not to us. We, as kids, had no experience with it. Hiroshima and Nagasaki took place but were not discussed until years later. It was a scenario that was discussed and played out in case it ever did happen but it wouldn't because we had the Strategic Air Command and we knew the Russians wouldn't bomb us because we would bomb them back into the stone age and so forth.

Besides, if the Russians did attack, alls we had to do was hide under the nearest desk and tuck our heads between our legs. It was called "Duck and cover" and we were told it would work --- later, when I was a teacher, we added "tuck our heads between our legs and kiss our ass, goodbye.

The shootings are real.

They say a society is judged by how well it cares for its most vulnerable. How hard is it to understand we need to ban military style assault rifles and high capacity magazines?

Kids under the age of seven or eight should NEVER be subjected to realistic active shooter drills. They are still in the magical thinking stage, some even older. The idea that this isn’t real is elusive and they can be literally emotionally scarred by it.

We did duck and cover when I was young but never, ever did they do something like someone rattling the door (or whatever the nuclear equivalent is). And I had nightmares for years as a result of living in a SAC base during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

When I was in grade school in the late 70's to early 80's we did the tornado drills(duck and cover) and that's it. I couldn't have imagined doing drills like this when I was a kid. My heart breaks for these little ones. Their innocence has been taken away from them far too early. This madness has to stop.

Edited to add: Can you send me the source for this in a PM? Thanks in advance.

Posted on Facebook after the Florida shooting:

How is it possible to go to school and feel safe anymore? The number of school shootings that have happened so far this year is unbelievable. To know that most of them could have been stopped is frustrating. My mom got a call from the school today say that a student that I attend school with, had posted pictures on his social media holding up guns and posing treats. Just in the last week or so a student also made a hit list in class of all the people he was planning on killing if he ever shot up the school. 32 students heard him say it and saw the paper with the names listed and so did the teacher. He was reported but I never heard of any punishment against him. I found out about that from multiple students. But never once did a teacher or any of the schools staff say anything to our parents and any of the students. Instead, they kept it a secret. There have been multiple treats to my school this year. How am I supost to know if its real or all just some messed up sick joke that someone created to act "funny"?How should anyone feel safe knowing stuff like this is going around and nothing is being done and/or is being hidden away from us? This has got to stop. School is supposed to be a safe learning environment but with everything that has happened, I find it very hard to feel safe..

.....

(Note: I decided to post this exactly as it was posted on Facebook, spelling and grammar untouched.)

You run drills with the kids where they just do what the teacher says the same as a fire or tornado drill.

Not with active role players.

You do your training with active roll players with just the teachers in the rooms and the involvement of law enforcement. On a day with no kids in the school.

Whatever principal and school admin approved and ran this drill needs to be removed from that position. Now.

Please tell us what school district this was. Parents needs to know how incompetent the leadership there is and they need to know now.

Edit- I found the original post. Looks like Pittsburgh. I will drill down to the exact school now that I know who the original post originated with as well as the media there to make sure this kind of crap isn’t repeated.
