How many of you have either personally bought or know someone who has bought a tRump brand product, stayed in one of the tRump hotels, or eaten at a tRump restaurant? The de-branding of tRump Panama made me think of this. His brand is now anathema to all but the most toxic deplorables, but it wasn't always that way. So fess up. What did you buy? Where did you stay? And how awful was it?

(27,813 posts)I've seen buildings in New York and Chicago, and they are both awful in the extreme.
But there may be people who had to stay at a hotel or had to eat at a restaurant because of their company's booking agent or relatives chose the venue.

(27,813 posts)The dark-haired spawn, Don, Jr., I think, was one of the judges, and made a lot of unintentionally hilarious comments about the designs being "good enough" to represent the Trump brand and a bunch of other nonsense. I remember the episode because it was so ridiculous.

(50,559 posts)An apartment meant to express the personal style of the owner, when the owner is Donald Trump? Hmm...
First, install wainscoting and chair rail. Paint the walls above the chair rail ivory. The wainscoting gets a coat of mahogany stain. Finish by painting all the moulding gold.
Replace all the faucets and toilet levers with gold-plated ones. The sinks and toilets themselves will be an elegant black.
In the kitchen, install separate refrigerator and freezer units. Remove the range because no one's ever going to use it anyway - Big Macs come precooked. In its place, install a humidity-and-temperature controlled system for keeping baked goods at their optimum freshness.
The kitchen table will be huge and mahogany. The chairs will have gold-plated bases and leather upholstery. All the furniture will be leather-upholstered.
Place jade plants (also known as "money plants" all over the house.
The bedroom will have a mirrored ceiling and a round bed. An apothecary jar of gold-wrapped chocolate coins and a phone charging stand will be on the nightstand next to his side. On her side will be an apothecary jar full of condoms, just in case his micropenis decides to work tonight.

(651 posts)I stayed because it was for work and the client chose the hotel certainly not me. It was at the old Washington Post Office building in DC. In the lobby it is quite nice. The rooms are pretty gaudy though with gold crap everywhere. Everything is expensive. A domestic beer is $8.00, cocktails, $18.00. Steak was $50 and up depending which one you wanted. It think it went over $100. It did have a nice large screen tv with full cable. The in room bar was pricy as well. It had a nice small bottle of single malt scotch for $150 and a small bottle of bourbon for around $60. The coffee maker was a kind of mini Keurig kind of thing that made a demitasse cup of expresso. Would have preferred a real cup of Joe in the morning though. The bed was too soft for my likes. The service was good. A bed turn down in the evening with a chocolate. You had to tip around five people just to get to your room when you check in.
Overall if it wasn't for the name on the building it would have been an ok stay. Except for all the gold shit. Glad I wasn't footing the bill.

We stayed at the Trump Taj Mahal I think.
I was the Trump Something.
She booked the place.
It was a nice room.
Kind of a "modern" take on mid century modern design in the room.
It was a Sunday night and it was dead and rainy in AC.
We ate at the steakhouse and it was very nice.
The casino was slow but we had fun anyway, walked on the Boardwalk, looked at the ocean.
It was a nice night.
We are the target customer Trump used to have.
Middle aged, doing well, travel a lot for business and fun.
Didn't care about his TV show or ignorance at the time.
Just wanted a nice upscale hotel for the night.
That's what we got.
And we would never do that again at a Trump Property for the rest of our lives.
I took all the Trump soaps and shampoos when we checked out and threw them in my travel bag.
Got a lot of those at home.
Fast forward to last June, we bought a new house and moved.
While packing I found the Trump soaps, shampoos and conditioners etc from that weekend in a box with a bunch of other hotel soaps in the bathroom.
I have been using them to drive a co-worker crazy who hates Trump more than anything by leaving one on his desk or in his drawers every now and then.
He doesn't know who has been tormenting him with these Trump items so SHHHHH!

We got married on an off-weekend, so the room was dirt cheap. Three night staycation (we live in Las Vegas).
Everything was luxurious. The TV behind the mirror in the bathroom was cheesy, but cool, and there was definitely too much gold trim. But sheets and towels and pillows were as good as they get; the couch and the room service was equally good.
What I noticed, though, that made it good was a tiny little detail: in the morning there was a newspaper in front of every rooms door. Californians got the LA Times, NY metropolitans got the NY Times, flyover states all got USA Today, and we had the sole Las Vegas newspaper on the floor.

I get it... lots of people think Vegas-chic is a standard to be achieved, but it comes across vulgar and tasteless to my eyes.
I'm more of an 'elegant economy and genteel poverty' kind of guy who'd rather do a small bed and breakfast in Fredericksburg, Texas than a full suite of gaudy furniture, boorish decorating and loutish neighbors pretending to be kings for the weekend.

(2,367 posts)back in the 90's I think. We got off an elevator and there was this giant poster of Trump's personal yacht "The Trump Princess" or something like that. We all laughed at what a giant egomaniac Trump was to put a poster up of one of his personal possessions at one of his places of business. We left and went somewhere else. I've thought he was an ass ever since.

I showed them my military card and asked them that since I was closer to thirty years old than I was to twenty, does this look like Im underaged?

(18,312 posts)I guess as far as atlantic city casinos go, well, meh. I mean, the check in line was abysmal, and the table games were nonexistent. The room overlooked the ocean which was nice, considering we got the room at a steep discount thanks to groupon. Other than that, I found the room at Circus Circus in Las Vegas to be nicer. Then again, I thought Atlantic City was perhaps the most boring place I'd ever been and was happy to get out of there and back to Philadelphia when the weekend was over.

(7,809 posts)It was the Trump Marina in Atlantic City (my memory may be hazy on that; it was the one that was not along the Boardwalk). It was New Year 1999-2000 and my inlaws invited us. The casino was the most crowded place I've ever been outside a Tokyo subway during rush hour.
The main thing I remember is that I was bored in the casino and I went back to the room shortly after midnight. I caught the second half of one of the best TV programs I've ever seen: the 100 most influential people of the last 1,000 years. The number one spot was taken by Gutenburg.
ProudLib72
(17,984 posts)I particularly like the number two spot. Isaac Newton (gravity). Before Newton, people just floated around, often jealous they had not been born as trees with roots to anchor them. The Beatles rank higher than Jonas Salk!!!!

(11,175 posts)In my defense, the rooms were comped.
On the last weekend before the Trump Taj Mahal closed for good, they still had loads of logo merchandise (especially clothing) for sale. I wonder what became of all that stuff. It occurred to me that a purchase might be a good investment, if something eventually had resale value as a collector's item, but I just couldn't bring myself.
As for the hotel rooms, they were essentially indistinguishable from the rooms in non-Trump joints in Atlantic City.
