Even though I agree that he is a mess, this type of thing may serve to help his entrenchment with his base.

Like Bush was a mess when dealing with other leaders, ridicule from other countries merely served to help bolster their support. Which is ridiculous mind you, but that seems to be how it goes.

The only thing I can say that is different is that at least with Romney he is still not well liked by the base, so it may help, but I have to wonder if this is in some way a ploy to get more support from those who have this odd hatred for all foreign opinion. Even if it makes sense.
