Madison avenue won again.

Watching the news spin away from Parkland and realized that once again Americans got played.

Look, Trump's proposal to arm teachers was always stupid on its surface. Past a couple state houses I see no sign anyone is actually taking it seriously legislatively. The flaws are obvious and the effectiveness was always laughable.

But it did what it was designed (by some highly paid PR consultants at Ackerman McQueen) to do. Check that out.

It hassled some long-standing Republican enemies: teachers. It made a lot of people mad about something OTHER than the shooting. It changed the topic away from any competing solutions that might cost money or poke at the NRA.

And it allowed the NRA to weather the news cycle.

Sure some Parkland momentum will remain, but the white hot anger of the moment is fading with no changes to the status quo again. Rationally, how can one counter PR consultants and crisis management tactics?

I don’t see the issue fading and while the answers that will be given will likely not be near enough, this is despite many who believe otherwise, not an easy one to resolve in this political climate. It will be one of incremental change and slow progress.

Dick's Sporting Goods no longer sells assault style guns, high-capacity magazines or to anyone under 21. They are part of Madison Ave and made a huge change in reaction to something that happened less than two weeks ago. There is no doubt they wouldn't have if not for the Parkland students amazing reaction to the tragedy they experienced.
