General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI hope that the standard for vetting Democratic candidates for office includes reading a candidate's
platform; reading about the history of the candidate; his/her accomplishments at the very least.
I don't see how cherry picking tweets is a constructive way to vet candidates.

(59,092 posts)Do we ingore when someone slams Hillary and Chelsea Clinton. Joe Kennedy, Elizabeth Warren, Kamala Harries, Barack Obama and Joy Reid while praising while praising the NRA's goon. There are plenty of candidates in the district who agree on the issues.

(7,652 posts)I can think of a million more damaging things to be outraged about than what is mentioned here. Also, using random tweets out of context to disparage a candidate lowers the credibility of such posts.

(6,288 posts)Someone needs to explain just what qualifies this bullshit artist as a Democrat?
They can't do it honestly, because he is not.
Wtf more proof do ya need. Its his own words. His thoughts. His claim to political fame. And it will follow him forever.
There is nothing credible to defend.
He has told us who he is.

(7,652 posts)informed discussion of this candidate; I don't know much about him either, but think it's better to lead with bio material and accomplishments rather than random tweets to truly vet a candidate; there seems to be an agenda to destroy this candidate without any substantive discussion

"Passionate progressive"! WooHoo! Such detail!
His campaign website has even less. His Twitter stream consists mostly of retweets with slogans, most of which are at typical "keyboard crusader" level of detail.
Maybe, just maybe, he should follow in his dad's footsteps and run for lower office first and build up an actual track record.

(6,288 posts)If he's that naive about tweeting words, then he has no business running for such a powerful seat.
HE has told us over time, who he is.
He can now Drop the letter D behind his name.
F that bs.

(108,990 posts)before turning them over. If a candidate wants to run as a Dem, they should publicly release their returns before the first primary or caucus.
The only way for our candidate to have any credibility when demanding the GOP nominee release his or her returns is for our candidate to release them, too.

(4,492 posts)Federal? State? Statewide offices only? Local/county? School board?
I think it should be a requirement for federal and statewide offices, but I don't think for local.

(9,527 posts)Taking somebody's tweets as indicative of their thoughts, particularly when their campaign site is functionally empty, isn't cherry picking.

(5,969 posts)A personal opinion can tell you just as much about a candidate than the polished, filtered, carefully prepared platform you put on your website with the help of your team.
JHB
(37,161 posts)And what is his platform? His campaign website doesn't have anything more than a statement and a "contribute" button.
His Twitter stream doesn't exactly go into these things, "cherry-picked" or not.

(61,690 posts)We have a candidate running in a Democratic primary who has tweeted anti-Democratic memes generated by Russian troll farms for at least two years.
I think that this needs to be looked into.

(6,288 posts)..his OWN WORDS, and claim to support him.
Ffs, he credits Trump, Loesche & the NRA while dumping on every decent Dem he named.
What are people supposed to judge him by if not his own damn words?
What an asshole.
His words represent everything that's going backward in this country & he's got NOTHING else that defines him but his last name.
And that's just not enough anymore.
He's got to have his own credible accomplishments not just a name & a bunch of tweets disparging the Dems while approving of the worst scourge of our society.
You are actually surprised at the appalling reaction?
What a confused child he must be.
