(3,011 posts)I would love to know how to follow the races that are going on around the country. Is there a great website to follow? Thanks in advance.

(6,377 posts)Since January 2017, Democrats have flipped 40 seats to Republicans 4. There have been a number of times that a Republican held a seat, but those are mostly in deep red districts where the Democrat never really had a chance.
An good example was tonight in Kentucky. A Republican help a seat in a district Trump won 79-12 in 2016. We were NEVER going to win that seat tonight, but the Republican won something like 67-33. Thats a 31-point improvement, which is a good moral victory and a clear showing that the blue wave is alive and well, even in deep red Kentucky.

My numbers for the Kentucky election were off by just a hair, but they were close enough that the sentiment remains.

(51 posts)When I was transferred to NH in the 70's NH was as red as red could be. The governor at the time wanted to arm the NH national guard with nukes (no, I'm not kidding). The state's leading, very conservative, newspaper could make or break candidates. Ed Muskie was one of the victims.
As the years passed NH saw a massive influx of Mass. residents. Today NH's two senators and two reps are all women democrats. Not a complete conversion: John Sununu's son is governor but terms are only two years.
The GOP is on the wrong side of history. It can take some time for many people to "get it", and like an addict, things need to hit rock bottom before they see the light. I'm cautiously optimistic. Trump hit me like a load of bricks and I reach a new level of disgust every day. Let's pray for Mueller to put some well deserving folks in cuffs, soon, and November delivers us from evil.

(32,706 posts)They know they're dying out and this is their last gasp. What's more they know that Donald Trump isn't truly a Republican or a conservative, he's just a fame-whore and a useful idiot.
The ultraconservative Republicans know that they have to cheat in order to win, because in a fair straight-numbers election they'll lose every time. As time goes on it will be worse as more of them are dying off. They figured this out years ago and they saw what they had to do. They saw they had to slowly, quietly whittle away at our integrity, our democracy, our freedoms, our education, and economic well-being. They had to divert our attention while they picked our pockets, and then get us all arguing with one another rather than blame them.
I'm not talking about Russians, I'm talking about Americans - the super wealthy one-percenters. The ones who get all the benefits and none of the bills. Not all the one-percenters are RWNJs but most of them are, a few are liberal though. What the one-percenters are - is they're entitled, every last one of them. If we were living in 18th century France, these poeple would be first in line for the guillotines. Well I'm happy to say that our society is better than that, but we've taken a lot of damage from these people. We have to learn to protect ourselves and our children and prevent this from ever happening again. It's all up to us Democrats because we're not getting any help from anywhere else.
Stay sane and be happy. Hope for a better November.
