Teachers could soon be carrying concealed guns inside schools in Pike County under a proposal that was preliminarily approved Monday evening by the Pike County School Board.
The unanimous decision came after the board heard concerns about school safety from teachers, parents and administrators during a town hall meeting at Pike County Central High School. The discussion was prompted by multiple school shootings in recent weeks, including one at Marshall County High School in Western Kentucky that left two dead and another in Florida that left 17 dead.
The motion authorizes the school boards attorney to work with the Pike County Sheriffs Office, which would oversee the program, to finalize a formal policy for the school board to consider.
Pike County Schools Superintendent Reed Adkins said he hopes the board will give final approval within two to three weeks, and to have armed staff in schools by fall, if not sooner.

This program could be a model for the rest of the state and, possibly, the country, said state Sen. Ray Jones, D-Pikeville, who attended the meeting.

I would expect parents by the millions across the country will be pulling their kids to home school them or look for some private school. - Although I would certainly wonder why private schools would be any safer?
Undercutting our education system should throw a big wrench into American superiority.

They're going to lose. This will pass, and most will deny they were ever part of this.

The only thing that stops a bad man with an AR-15 is a SWAT team with AR-15s.

But I do know children will be shot "by accident" if there are guns around. They are resourceful. They will find a way.

Why are we letting such people be teachers?
Why do you think teachers are that kind of dangerous people?

"For the same reason we have sexual abusers as teachers" would be my guess.

Or, see a white teacher in a stand your ground state (RED states) feels "threatened" by a non-white student and shoots them to death?
This gun situation in the USA is escalating into an even DARKER and MURDEROUS situation if that's possible.
LanternWaste
(37,748 posts)My guess is an accident would occur first.
Not that it really makes a difference... a body three minutes from dead by an accidental gun shot wound coming into an ER isn't too different from a body three minutes from dead by a purposeful gun shot wound.
Happens at gun ranges where a nine year old accidentally shoot instructors, fathers accidentally shoot sons, patrons shot by employees, etc., despite these guys being responsible owners (until they're not)
(let's cue the little guy who argues "there are no gun accidents" as it's a favorite bumper-sticker of the NRA despite 'accident' being the most accurate word)
