Cook Political Report: Its not normal for Republicans to be worried about losing a seat President Trump carried by 20 points. But with two weeks to go before the March 13 special election, Republican state Rep. Rick Saccone is locked in an extremely close contest against Democratic prosecutor/Marine veteran Conor Lamb, who has significantly outspent him.
Were moving the race from Lean Republican to Toss Up.
Whats made the race so close, many Republicans admit, is that Lamb has simply proven to be a stronger candidate than Saccone.

(8,200 posts)This case must be keep front and center throughout the 2018 elections. Our only hope is to defeat the Republicans for every office the run for, from local and state to federal. I am convinced that our nation very survival is dependent on destroying the FASCIST REPUBLICAN PARTY. They have adopted every doctrine of the German Nazi Party and must be stopped. They are just as evil and dangerous as Hitler and Mussolini. The most powerful weapon of the people is their vote. The filthy Republican Party has done everything they can to restrict minorities, elderly and the youth from being able to exercise the constitutional rights. If ever there was justification for massive demonstrations that was the time. Our response has been less than adequate. The Republicans have not let this go unnoticed and are encouraged to intensify its onslaught. Just consider their attack and environmental laws, voting rights, health care, fair wages and every progressive program the Democrats have fought for against their unrestrained greed.

(6,377 posts)Saccone has outraised Lamb 17-1 overall, but in local contributions, Lamb is outraising him 2-1. Basically, Saccone is getting a ton of money from big money donors, while there's a lot of grassroots support that Lamb's getting.

(129,440 posts)and could be a whole new ballgame come the May primary. The new 18th will be Pittsburgh and surrounding 'burbs in Allegheny County and a chunk of the current 18th will become the 14th and will include some of the current 9th.
DeminPennswoods
(15,290 posts)Saccone would be in the new 14th, iirc.
The new 17th primary will be interesting as Erin McClelland has thrown her hat into the ring for a 3rd try at Rothfus.

(611 posts)It is horrible that Saccone May be my new congressman. I havent even heard of a Democrat circulating a petition yet. It is Oxycontistan here, broke dopers and elderly rangers who support Trump to the end. Socially part of West Virginia.

(15,290 posts)It's Pittsburgh and what looks to be the south hills suburbs.

Washington, Westmoreland (partial), Greene, and Fayettenam. I dont know if Doyle will choose to run this fall in that or in the district in which he lives.
DeminPennswoods
(15,290 posts)Doyle's district is the new 18th. I believe that's where Saccone currently lives.

(611 posts)For a minute I thought maybe I had the wrong map! At least that ugly Repugnantcan bastard Saccone and his frontal hairpiece will belong to some other unfortunate voters, not me.

(31,261 posts)People criticized them on Alabama, but they were there with a brilliant ground game. At the risk of sounding hostile, do you care or do you just want to hit the DNC? If you care, make a contribution to Lamb through his website, he can use the money down the stretch. I did my latest contribution on Sunday.

(59,221 posts)1. Lamb is raising a ton of money from small donors and, as an individual candidate, gets a better rate on the tv buy.
2. The party got deeply involved in the Ossoff race that galvanizes the opposition when theres nothing else going on.
3. The map will be different in November.
4. The DNC is broke but Im getting a bunch of emails from the DCCC.
5. This is deep red deer hunter country where Clinton lost by 20 in 2016 and Obama lost in 2012.

(37,648 posts)I would be worried if it weren't. I mean, if having a lying idiot Russian puppet in the White HOuse, supported by lying idiot Russian representatives, and funded by Russians, and bilking the American taxpayers out of billions, if all that weren't enough for at LEAST a toss-up, I'd say "All is Lost."

(155 posts)Can Lamb maximize enough GOTV to overcome the Republican majority in this district? The concern is whether he might have maximized his base and there just isn't enough Democrats or progressives to beat the Republican scum. Lamb will need to get some of their scum to vote for him unfortunately. Lamb needs major GOTV in the district between now and election day.
