Notoriously bad online charter school in Ohio finally shut down.

Notoriously bad online charter school in Ohio finally shut down.

ECOT, the Electronic Classroom of Tomorrow, an online charter school that most education advocates agree doesn’t teach students worth a damn and has been siphoning Ohio public school tax dollars for years into the pockets of people who Betsy Devos loves, finally closed in January after it couldn’t pay back $60 million in “overpayments” from the State, because they fucking lied about the number of students and how much time students spent even allegedly attending online classes. I’ve despised this particular scam for years, and there is great rejoicing in the local educational community, as this story from the Cleveland Plain Dealer illustrates.

It’s about damned time. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

the money they scammed in addition to the 60 million in overpayments from the state. If the scam has been going on for years it must be substantial. In addition there is the loss of learning to their so-called students who probably were not actually taught anything of value.
DeVos is, if I recall, basically a representative for that whole money making industry so I do not expect much follow up for the whole charter school mess.
