Its significant on many different levels, says Lu. We are left now with the wholly unqualified presidential daughter providing a briefing to the president of one of our major allies about economic sanctions. So one of two things happened. Either she got access to classified information in order to do the briefing, which would be improper, or she simply gave President Moon a briefing that he probably could have read about in a newspaper, and thats embarrassing.

that's classified, and being considered the best candidate to meet with them.

(29,718 posts)on the subject was the wife a president and the republicons excoriated her.
This woman can't even multiply...saw a Howard Stern segment...has NO security clearance and no expertise in the subject. But she does have botox access and sports a perfectly airbrushed face.

(59,587 posts)A clueless little girl, who's floated through life on a golden raft of Daddy's Money, is "negotiating" with a foreign power.
Without experience, without training, without education, without anything but Lucky Sperm Club membership, she's been dispatched to ooze her breathy clueless smarm to the leaders of an important ally and a major industrial nation - people who take their responsibilities seriously, and who know what they're talking about.
If this is beyond your understanding, well, it sucks to be you.

(63,221 posts)Who in their right mind gave the go-ahead for this brainless bimbo to go negotiate with a key ally regarding the highly volatile situation with effing North Korea! FFS, not only is she not qualified, she is an absolute joke! I realize that we currently have no ambassador to South Korea, but at least send someone who has some diplomatic experience! I feel like we are living in the fucking Twilight Zone!

(19,204 posts)I don't know about that. Even with his supposed wealth, I wouldn't want Trump for a father under any circumstances. I'd rather have a poor, honest man for a father than a self-centered, lying piece of crap like Trump. Many might call her a member of the "Lucky Sperm Club", but I refuse to be counted among that number.

(56,828 posts)to say the least, so should not be discussing politics with another country's political leadership as a representative of the country.
If she had access to classified documents, it's another security breach by this White House.

(7,220 posts)"clear" anyone he wants, so it's a technically moot point. The fact that she can't GET a regular, permanent clearance is the point. A point that congress should be hollering about, except IOIYAR naturally.

(11,588 posts)She and her husband are basically government security risks due to all the ties to foreign investors and neither should be given interim clearance--it boggles the mind, but then what do you do when the usurper POTUS appoints them to upper roles in his administration? They've both been operating on interim clearances for over a year now.
OldHippieChick
(2,434 posts)embarrassing and not because MSNBC said so. She has no security clearance so she should not be handling any classified matters. If she acted as if she had access to classified info in approaching the President of S. Korea she embarrasses herself as well as all of us. What part of this do you not understand?

(59,504 posts)His choices as reflect how people acted towards him in the past. Then consider that Tillerson, with no background in either government or diplomacy, has taken on as his top task cutting the State Department. I know that there are companies where new CEOs call in "experts" to downsize the company. I can't think of any former businessman doing the same thing to a major government department. This ignores that government has extremely different goals than a business - they are not driven by short term shareholder gain.
If the US had a South Korean ambassador, he or she would have communicated that information. Without one, normally there would be some deputy State Department person with that regional responsibility that could be sent. The Secretary himself could be sent. There were times where important work was done by WH people - including people like Susan Rice, McDonough, Rhodes etc - but they ALL had clearances and most had very serious foreign policy backgrounds or had years where they were in the room when national security decisions were made.
With Ivanka, she has no clearance and she might have many of the same problems that Kushner has. In addition to being the wife of Kushner, her own efforts include Trump properties in Panama where it seems that the Trump labeled building was used for money laundering and partners included criminals ( https://www.nbcnews.com/news/investigations/panama-tower-carries-trump-s-name-ties-organized-crime-n821706 ) and the Azerbaijan hotel where they partnered with the Revolutionary Guard of Iran ( https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2017/03/13/donald-trumps-worst-deal ) Either of these two would seem to raise HUGE security questions.
In addition, nothing in her background suggests that she has the diplomatic skills or the knowledge of the tricky foreign policy involved in North Korea. It is 100% clear that her ONLY credential is being Trump's daughter. This is enough for her to represent the US at the Olympics -- as many First Ladies have. It is pretty much ceremonial and it seems she handled it better than the VP did.
