Watching this John Oliver video, I couldnt help but think again how scary Trump is...

Ok so I’ve always known how scary Trump is. But he’s so surreal and unexpected in the American political landscape that it took this video to remind me yet again. This video is of John Oliver covering the sad insantity that is the Italian political landscape at the moment. Italy has long had a terribly corrupt political history. They are famous for governments that last only a few months, for corruption, for politicians that are more like mobsters. None of that is new. But what I found scary in watching all of this is how... NOT extreme all of this seems after months and months of Trump. Almost everything that John says here about any of the corrupt candidates in Italy seem at home coming out of Trump. There was a time when this kind of comically unstable corruption in government was relegated to failed states overseas. No longer.

But not hopeless.

I console myself by remembering that Trump was elected under extraordinary circumstances .
