Sarah Smith's excellent 101 part, 1-week tweet crumb trail re: Mueller's 13 indicted Russians

It begins here on Feb 16, 2018. The tweet chains are so long, you will need to scroll up and down for the entire chain to reveal itself.
11/ Let’s begin. The indictment alleges that a conspiracy began “from in or around 2014” to interfere in US political processes. Large sums of $ was dedicated to the conspiracy. Conspirators infected US social media, and travelled to US to gather intelligence.

26/ A US citizen from a Texas grassroots organization, told the Russian spies to focus on “purple states”.

33/ Top campaign officials from the Trump campaign were contacted by the conspirators as “March for Trump” in August 2016 AFTER the campaign had been warned by the FBI. Yet, the Trump campaign retweeted tweets and information from the Kremlin-sponsored group anyway.

#89 - 92 are linked to the use of related Twitter hashtags, both by Trump and Russian conspirators
89/ Beginning in February 2013, Trump started using the hashtag #Trump2016 — in 2013 he used or retweeted it 33x. In 2014 he used or retweeted it 109x. In 2015, he used or retweeted it 190x **BEFORE** his June 2016 announcement of candidacy.

92/ According to Mueller’s indictment of the Russians, Prigozhin’s St Petersburg trolls were amplifying the hashtag #Trump2016 from 2014 through the election.
and is up to 101, with this tweet.

In the process, he made hundreds of millions of dollars.

If you thought that was well written, you should catch her Trump Sedition tweet rant

14/ For decades, Trump has surrounded himself with kleptocratic, compromised, morally bankrupt individuals, such as Giuliani

I genuinely hate Twitter -- how did such a poorly designed mess get to be such a central part of our culture?

it doesn't help that quotes/excerpts are displayed as images, taking an unnecessary long time to load on such a long thread, leaving it unreadable to those with slower connections.

twitter certainly serves a purpose, but is annoying to read long form content that should be an article or blog post. i suspect the answer to your question, is that people are hooked on amassing likes and retweets. this story as a blog post would get one page click per reader, the tweet thread gets a hundred views and the opportunity for a like number of likes.
