They have NRA TV on there
If you have Amazon Prime I recommend calling and canceling and telling them WHY. I specifically said I will not support a company that features a hate-group.
I also called Apple TV to get it removed from there

(1,596 posts)Ebay looks interesting for some things and I hear that they don't use Fed Ex either.
I am not really looking to boycott but every time I think about buying something from Amazon
I think about that disgusting NRA TV and I just can't bring myself to buy anything from Amazon.

(10,909 posts)I'm not and never have been an Amazon Prime member because it's just not worth it to me because I order stuff from them about 3 times a year. It's not worth $99/year (which comes to $33 per shipment) just to have it delivered in a couple days. I can wait the usual free-shipping 7-10 days.
And the video stuff is worth very little to me.
Now about the games -- I've been buying ink cartridges for my printer from them for years. But the last time was different -- it told me I have to be a Prime member in order to buy the cartridge 4-pack that I usually order. And there was no alternative like pay a little more as a non-Prime person.
Grrrr. Now I'm being restricted in what I can buy.

(17,986 posts)Amazon is very high on most everything. Especially appliances. Why pay to shop.they should pay you.
I know how many dislike WALMART but they even give 10% discount for online shopping.
That is enough to cover taxes. Big purchases shipped free right to the house. Small items, store pickup,no fee.
I checked Electric Pressure cookers. Amazon was at least $20 higher.

(38,958 posts)Amazon is a great place for window shopping with their selection, but you can often do much better doing just a bit more looking. Not always, but it's worth looking in most instances.
Blue_Adept
(6,399 posts)I deal with them for books and you can't find lower prices for most of it. And they vary discounts regularly which helps as well. Same with movies, which is my other thing.
I had put the Black Panther art book on my wish list earlier this month. Lists for $60, they had it for $40. Five days after the movie it dropped to $30 but with a wait as it was out of stock. There's no way I'd find it for anywhere below list locally - if they have it at all.
Thankfully, I mostly just shop in the loss leader area.

(38,958 posts)In some cases they have the best deals, in others not so much. Shopping around is still worthwhile to get the best deal for your money.

(17,986 posts)As soon as I hear of a new one I reserve it. At times I am reading it as soon as it comes out.
Started this when my bookcases became over loaded. They even renew you on line for 4 to 6 times.
Not cheap here.

(46,166 posts)Our library system is very good in the selection and there's always the Prospector system for out of the area books. And our library purchases just about every book or USA version dvd I've requested.
We pay for the library with out taxes and it's well worth every increase on the ballot. If I'm only going to read a novel once it's a waste to purchase my own copy. More funds left over to donate to our political candidates!

(4,492 posts)In some cases, Amazon is a lot better at prices than you can get at a brick and mortar store.
Example-- I'm upgrading my phone soon (they just released the model I'm getting) and I was browsing for cases. Most 'bumper' cases on Amazon are $15 or under where I'd pay upwards of $30 in a Best Buy. Besides if you use a phone not made by Apple, good luck finding cases at brick and mortar stores.
Another example-- as an Etsy seller, I have to stock shipping supplies. A 5 pack of poly mailers (used for pussyhats) is $7.99 at Staples. A 100 pack on Amazon is $8.99. No way in hell am I paying $2 for something that I can get for less than a dime (that price would be passed on to my customers).
I do not think that Amazon has the best prices in housewares though.
True Blue American
(17,986 posts)You can buy a cheap printer for $29. Ink cartridges $37.
Some one I know was given a Printer as a gift. It was the $29 version. The plastic was there. No cartridges. Cost $37.

(68,586 posts)still had me enrolled in their shitty ink program...charged me 9.99 a month for this...only found out because the credit card expired...I am so angry about this...mad I didn't check when I cancelled last year...it was cancelled, but like a zombie it came back to life...a couple of months later. It was a a card a I use rarely...and pay automatically. I despise HP...didn't get a computer from them since they screwed me over with my daughter's computer...still under warranty but they refused to fix it...called it abuse...it wasn't. I found out yesterday and had to wait until today to call as of course they have no people there on the weekends...another reason never to buy from this shitty company.

(4,835 posts)They can't just cancel these kind of relationships.
I would hope they are working to extricate themselves - but gotta think there are contracts here.
Trump would love to everyone cancel their Amazon accounts - don't you think? He hates Bezos, right.
Don't make Trump happy.
Give Amazon some time to make it right.

(12,392 posts)I actually use amazon prime a lot for both convenience and price, because I live in a remote location from stores other than souvenir and dive shops. I believe lodging a complaint and expecting a reply would be the first step, and then reassessing if a positive response is not forthcoming. I plan to initiate that process this week.

Perhaps that will change moving forward.

(27,813 posts)I also live in Seattle, and what's become of the downtown after their incessant construction, influx of tech workers, and tax dodging is pretty much a lesson of how to make people who already live in an area feel completely miserable and marginalized. It's hellish here right now and the infrastructure (that Amazon doesn't pay for because of their tax breaks) is stretched well past its limit.
I'm actually floored at how many people I know use Amazon without a thought to the negative effect this company has had.
Kicking just for this post, which will probably be ignored my most.

(10,909 posts)I went to Cub Foods (the brick and mortar store, Minnesota) -- I do 90% of my grocery shopping there. I found they apparently don't have something (tart cherry juice montmorency) that I used to buy -- its an 8:1 concentration and much more convenient and cheaper than buying the non-concentrate.
Anyhoo so I go to Cub Foods website (cub.com) for maybe the first time, and in order to see anything, I have to log in. Even though I'm not a member and therefore have no login info, I can log in by various alternative methods, including by the big blue Facebook button (I'm a Facebook member). So I do that, and then see what they've got as far as cherry juice concentrates ...
At no time did they tell me I was joining anything ... and it never mentioned "InstaCart".
Later I get an email that thanks me for starting my 2 week free trial membership with InstaCart, and that I will be charged $149 annual membership on March 12 when my trial membership ends.
Huh! I never saw any of that when I went to cub.com or browsed around looking for the cherry concentrate. A complete shock.
There were instructions on how to cancel the membership in the email -- by clicking a certain link. So I did. No instructions or any link or menu item or anything about canceling. Found a Help page. Its instructions don't work and other things the Help page says is confusing, but I think since they don't have any credit card or other payment information, that it will die and go away, I hope.... I don't know what else to do other than write my state legislator or AG's office if there is a problem after 2 weeks ... Pisses me off that I fucked around with this for nearly an hour, and might have more work to do on it.

See what I did there? lol...yes, not funny, I know, BAD ME.
I order 60+ items a year and save a lot on S&H, plus being a total BBC TopGear fan I HAVE to have their new show "The Grand Tour", I am also a Kindle Unlimited member (10 books out at a time, 1 monthly costs) and really use the hell out of that burning thru SciFi. Not a big boycott fan anyway.
