Yes, what she did on that stage was brave, but lets not forget who this person is. She worked for Ronnie raygun and writes ridiculous articles for the national review and other hack right wing sites like town hall. Sort of like when Dubya(a hero of Charens) suddenly became popular for criticizing Trump, sure, its great to have as many voices as possible opposing Trump but lets remember: she's a fucking terrible person.

(6,916 posts)Charen is a harder case, because shes so clearly whitewashing the GOPs long history of division, hate, and voter suppression (all in the service of their billionaire donors). And shes doing that today.
But Kristol, whatever his past failings, is today speaking out for whats right. I support that.

(118,295 posts)I see two possibilities:
(1) They live from publicity from controversy, but The Don is sucking all the oxygen from the room
(2) They're hoping to find some cover by pretending to be centrists for a while

(118,295 posts)The question is:
whether she's just pizzled that The Don gets enough attention to depress her brand
or
whether she's decided that the SS Trumpster is headed for an iceberg and it's time to reserve space of a lifeboat

(56,828 posts)are worried that Trump is going to kill their brand for the foreseeable future like Coolidge & Hoover killed the Republicans for 20 years.
that said, Nixon didn't kill Republicans - sure, they lost narrowly in 1976, but then only 4 years later, we got conservative hero Reagan for 8 years afterwards and then 4 years of Bush Sr.

With Trump in office that is the lens through which I view my fellow citizens. I will not deride anybody who is willing to uphold those principles

(10,098 posts)Just like Michael Steele who seems suddenly shocked that his party is full of deplorable racists. I mean come on. Maybe Mona is just upset she's not getting invited to all the DC cocktail parties she used to hang out at.

(2,275 posts)They have both been very outspoken against Trump from the beginning. For some people, they are more believable because they are (or were) Republicans.

(24,414 posts)They've all said and written horrible things about the Clintons, Obama, Democrats, progressives, etc. over the years that are difficult, if not impossible, to overlook so as to be able to embrace them now. If a more "conventional" Republican had been elected instead of Trump (i.e. Jeb), they'd be singing their praises and enabling their policies (which, in most cases, would be similar, just not with all of Trump's bombast) and attacking Democrats. If and when a more "conventional" Republican (or conservative) candidate gets elected in the future, they will return to form. They are anti-TRUMP, not anti-GOP.
