I haven't watched CNN in a while. Is this a real shift?

they're spouting much the same stuff on CNN as on Fox.

Let's remember that CNN Worldwide's CEO Jeff Zucker turned Trump into a national figure in the first place with The Apprentice show and then gave him many millions worth of free air time while he was campaigning, often airing Trump rallies from end to end, showing empty stages while waiting for Trump to arrive.

Zucker claims to only be interested in ratings, but he's hiring strong conservatives. He also does 24/7 blancket coverage every time shootings and other sensationalizable events occur which pushes other things people need to know right off the screen. MSNBC follows suit to a large degree to compete for the market's preference for blood and outrage over information. The effects of this are suppression of information and distraction of public attention away from real issues, and that always benefits the Republicans far more.

I don't believe Zucker's claims that the conservatization of CNN is just a side effect of seeking ratings. CNN is serving right-wing billionaires in their battle for power.

4. They make the mistake of trying to be balanced

They will counter a fact based representative with a lunatic. I think the theory is that it makes for entertaining TV. But all I see is extremism being normalized. That is not balanced. It's just plain stupid.

Turn off the TV machine. If you really want to be informed you have to read the news. The TV and radio are just the old version of clickbait. They make their money off of of scandal scaremongering and spectacle. Don't expect the major print media outlets to be much better. They've been shoved into defense mode for decades. Those few journalists that survive do so on independent media outlets that are starved of resources to do their job. Those few that break through the noise of infotainment are independent of advertising $ or selling stories that don't really challenge the dominant power structures.

If you really feel a need to tune into dominant corporate media just remember they're selling you a perspective that might not be in your interest. Consider it as opposition research or counter intelligence.
