Romney just loves to brag.

It's tempting to think there is some chessboard-like strategy - however misguided - behind Romney's fumbles today. Why, one wonders, would he criticize the British preparedness for the Olympics in his political debut on foreign soil?

But no thinking at all going on here - only ego stroking. Most of the comments that get him into hot water seem to have one thing in common: they are uttered to make him look in-charge or important or rich or suave.

I think today's misstep was just an anemic attempt to spotlight his own experience running the Olympics. And his ego so overwhelms his perceptions that he can't fathom how others might not react with the expected admiration.

The fumbles that involve his wealth are very telling. It's no accident that he mentioned his wife's multiple mercedes' or elevators in his house. He can't resist showing off his wealth, and is utterly clueless about how people react to it. He really thinks people are envious and admiring. About lots of money. He is that shallow.

Similarly, he can't think beyond his own ego to imagine how other countries will respond to his self-serving comments. I can't even imagine what kind of damage he could do in a more volatile region of the world if he has raised the ire of our most loyal ally in a single day!

1. My first thought when I heard what he said was that he was trying to show how much he knew.

He needs to be in an environment where he's paying everyone he talks to - that way they are sure to be overwhelmed by the "deep insight" of his pronouncements.

I'm referring to the novel also called the novel without a hero where the characters display the lovely traits of greed, vanity, and snobbery, among others.

Clearly he wanted people to see how big and important he is!

I am wincing in embarrassment for our country.

they didn't mince words and essentially made Mitt look like the empty fumbling fool that he is. I guess sometimes the mess is so evident that even the corporate spun media can't hide it.
