I do not do OPs.
But the NRA must be frightened
In my 2+ years on DU I have not seen so many Firearm related OPs get Removed in one evening. All designed to divide us but very obvious and poorly done. Almost like those posting do not really understand our culture. Go figure.
Whoever is on watch here tonight, thank you.

I read your post and while I did not agree with some of it that is what DU is for. Or at least for me. I enjoy reading things I disagree with and even more discussion with those I disagree. On the firearms issue it is a bit risky. But as long as we support the Democratic Party position we can get along. Or at least support the same side.
Perhaps the offending posts were gone before you saw them.
Have a nice evening.

(10,156 posts)The idiot was new and way too open. Thing is we do have gun experts here who know how to call out stupid troll posts and it's funny they think liberals don't own guns.
But don't expect them to let up. They'll make more dummy accounts or they have them already here.
Best to do is watch their discussion boards and see if they are stupid enough to say they are opening a troll account. One did and got removed.

(11,949 posts)There have been several hides if OPs in the last couple of people who joined DU in the last few days. They are attempting to Troll DU on the gun issue.
I speculated that they do so out if feat that they have lost the narrative on gun control.
Better?
And lashing is not a good thing.
Have a great weekend.

(51,021 posts)quite a while.
They have an obvious MO which is to ask questions until they find an area in which they can drown you in a discussion about minutiae. A few of their tells: "Exactly what gun laws are you supporting." At which point, if you do not have the laws worked out as if you are a Senate markup session, they will launch into how terrible that law would be.
If that doesn't work, they look for something in the poster's past that they can use to say, "You don't have any credibility." Yesterday I saw a troll - not new to DU at all - pull up a post from 2012 to argue with a poster about. Had nothing to do with gun control, just an offhand remark FROM 2012 that they could misrepresent to try to discredit the poster they were talking about.
Their ultimate goal is to make you think this is an impossible problem. It isn't. It is a simple problem to fix. There are about 12 major measures that more than 75% of Americans support passing right now. They would make a huge improvement. There are dozens of measures that other countries have used that would stop these slaughters tomorrow.
We have spent enough time coddling the gun humpers and gun trolls. My advice is to not get caught in their scripted bog, ridicule them and laugh at them for as long as it is fun to do so, and don't let them discourage you.

(11,949 posts)The crazy thing is how all we have to do in order to identify the problem is look back before these massacres started and figure out what changed. And it is obvious as the nose on Wayne Lapierrres face...high capacity semiautomatic weapons of war. We have always been a heavily armed society. But those guns changed everything.
We find a way to get rid of those the we can move onto handguns that hold 15+ bullets.
If we go back to the firearms capacities available in the 60s gun deaths would plummet. And no one with a legitimate need for a fire arm would be inconvenienced.
And I firmly believe most Americans would strongly support this.

(51,021 posts)This isn't hard. Everyone else in the world has managed it. We almost all - throughout the country - agree on what needs to be done. Now we need only to ignore the trolls, online and in real life, and make sure we only vote for those who will do what needs to be done.
