What if we reframe the gun debate...

...and make it about money. Nothing touches the hearts of some folks quicker than higher taxes.
Ok, if you want your guns of mass destruction and you want innocent people to be safe, you are going to have to pay much higher taxes to provide for all the security measures, and not just at schools but at all public spaces like malls, theaters, parks, hospitals, sports venues, etc. People who purchase the AR-15 and other guns of mass destruction should pay the most by paying a large purchase tax.
Tell them if they really love these guns, they should be willing to put their money where their mouths are.

and divide the total by the total number of gun owners. Each would pay their fair share, and for owners of multiple weapons, multiply the fare share by the number of weapons.

And include a tax on ammunition and accesories.
