On February 14, 2018, I saw something so horrific that it really changed me. I work for a local TV station in South Florida. My co-workers were there to see some of the aftermath of the carnage at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland. They were there to tell a story. To get the story out to friends and family members.
None of the people I know wanted to be there. No-one in the media wants to tell these stories. No-one in the media wants to glorify anything that happened. We want to make sure it doesn't happen again. You want to know why?? Those are our friends. The students that go to MSD High are community members. They are friends with our children. When they hurt - we hurt as a community. It is our job in the media to inform the public.
I'm proud to work for a local TV station. I'm proud of my boss today, too. He is calling out the NRA and Dana Loesch for her abhorrent rhetoric at CPAC and for just being a horrible person (she's a liar, too).
Here is my General Manager's tweet today in response to this on CNN:

So Fuck the NRA. They are the ones who love Mass shootings. It's proven by their very words.
