Charge a 100% tax on guns, ammo and add on accessories. There are extra taxes on cigarettes and alcohol so why not gun related items. If they want to play they need to pay. Add on liability insurance too.

(9,116 posts)I think it would have trouble standing up in court. At least a tax at that high a rate.

(5,754 posts)Just like Republicans want highway tolls, gun owners should pay their own expenses. Call it a user fee.

(768 posts)Require all gun owners to "join" the "well-regulated" state "militia" by licensing themselves, pay an annual membership "fee" (tax), and register their arms like vehicles. Proof of liability insurance required like automobiles. Sales of weapons registered similar to the way automobiles are handled. Have a progressive registration fee such that each additional weapon costs more than the previous weapon; this would limit the numbers of guns that people own.
Once owners are required to carry insurance, then it may become cost-prohibitive to own guns.

(94 posts)that this cruz person would have joined the militia and bought insurance? I'm not try to start an argument, but those who are angry or have other issues I don't believe would purchase insurance.
If you goal is to kill why would you follow the rules is my point

(768 posts)If the requirement for gun purchase is a membership in a state's "militia" (which could have strict mental health and criminal background checks), then it could make a difference.
Of course, I do not understand why assault weapons should be legal in the first place.
Just tossing out ideas that would seem to meet the broadest interpretation of the Second Amendment...
