Why does anyone need a gun in this day and age?

I see my family (fellow Democrats) arguing over what restrictions we need.....10 bullets....5 bullets in a clip.....I don't care. Why does anyone need a gun at all in modern society? Want protection? Get a baseball bat.....get a dog......

The only people that should have guns are the police and military. That is how the rest of the developed world does it and they do not have daily mass shootings like we have here.

I think we need to shame gun ownership like we did with cigarettes. Get in people's faces if you know they have a gun. Embarrass them. Shame them. Run ads that make it "not cool" to own a gun like we did with cigarettes.

I understand it will be a long process to overturn and end the 2nd amendment or change the ruling of it but we could probably get rid of it within a generation.

This talk of arming teachers? Ridiculous. Do people want daily shoot outs in schools? What if a teacher snaps and starts shooting his students because he's having a bad day? Imagine the chaos of them all shooting each other if they got into an argument. You never know. They are not trained professionals like the police.

The only real reason I can see a citizen having a gun is hunting (which I am strongly against). If that is the case then they should only be allowed a shotgun and it must be locked up separately from the bullets. And they should be required to do stringent training, paperwork, license, documentation and also report when they are accessing the shotgun.

No, people shouldn't go hunting down the bear, and usually shooting off the shotgun shell regardless of if it hits makes one go away.

But on the other hand, chick in the Ozarks less than 10 miles from where we had a shotgun for exactly that purpose was killed by a mountain lion on their property.

Obviously the answer differs in, say, Chicago, whose everyone sane agrees gun problems come from one source -- Indiana.

3. I like Joe Biden's suggestion of only needing a shotgun if for some reason you "HAVE" to own a gun

For those in rural areas this would be sufficient. Perhaps only allow certain zoning areas where someone could own a shotgun

I have no answer...

I live in Belgium, guns are forbidden and it is good.

From here, we have a hard time to understand why people want to keep such deadly tools at home.

Here, only hunters can have a rifle but under very strict conditions and the license is not given for a lifetime.

5. Hello! Thank you. That is amazing that guns are forbidden there.

I can only hope that one day this country will be the same. I just don't get the gun fetish so many people have. Sounds like the laws there are exactly what I suggested considering hunters only allowed but under very strict conditions.

8. I agree. I never wanted the responsibility of owning a gun.

In my long life, I left it to the police and military. Hunters can hunt for deer I guess, but I sure hate the big game hunters. They can fuck themselves or hopefully get eaten by what they hunt.
