Three major car rental companies dump the NRA

Three major car rental companies dump the NRA
The backlash is growing.

A major car rental conglomerate which operates three prominent national brands is ending its corporate relationship with the National Rifle Association, as backlash grows in the wake of the Parkland mass shooting.

Enterprise Holdings, which operates Enterprise, Alamo, and National, had a partnership with the NRA to provide discounts to members.
The discounts are available to NRA members once they pay their $40 annual fee — and were among the 22 corporations offering discounts and “five star savings” to the gun lobby’s members. On Thursday, however, all three brands announced that they would be ending the program within the next month.

The announcement follows close on the heels of First National Bank of Omaha’s decision to end its relationship with the NRA. For more than a decade the bank has offered NRA members specially branded Visa cards, but in a tweet the bank said that “customer feedback has caused us to review our relationship with the NRA.” The bank did not respond to multiple inquiries by ThinkProgress asking for a more detailed explanation of its decision.

Not a burst of enthusiasm (if it can be called that) that peters out, but steady and sustained. As strong as possible, obviously, but for a long time...as long as it takes.

Is a top 10 issuer of credit cards so they are a major player here. They have been in business for over 150 years and are the largest privately owned bank in America.

It was totally debunked but the premise holds true. There comes a tipping point in any endeavor where there is only one way to go. I am hopeful we are there now.

PS Fuck the NRA

I don't know what's up with the rental car companies and the NRA, but all of the biggies had some sort of deal with it. Glad to hear about Enterprise & First National.

Hertz, Budget, Avis, where are you? And more banks, please. The NRA needs to be a pariah.

Easy to get a contact form from their website. I told them that I can choose any rental car company when I travel but I will not be using any that continue the NRA discount.
This is not a philosophical or moral question for them. The conversation is: which way will we lose more money and customers?

Please send emails to any company that has not yet broken ties with the merchants of death.

As usual....they kill for blood money. The $$$$$ must stop both the NRA as well as the politicians who represent the NRA and not the 67% of Americans who want to ban automatic weapons. It is the same with universal healthcare. The Big Pharm and Insur lobbies buy votes when the majority of constituents in both parties want affordable healthcare.

Our politicians are as corrupt as any other country if not more so. Representing the people is a foreign concept in the good ol USA!

Before more innocent children and teachers/administrators get killed too. As it is, with the sea of weapons already in the hands of nutty NRA conservatives, it'll be decades before we return to something close to normal, as far as our perception of safety.

The NRA and far too many of our legislators are awash in money from the firearms industry. I hope investors will divest themselves from these greedy predators.

Also hoping the NRA's membership roll takes a drastic hit this year!

What happens when the NRA doesn't have all the money to do whatever it wants or to buy whoever they need? What will happen to Ted Nugent if the NRA can't afford to pay him for his phony baloney job?

THIS will actually make a difference. Was this latest shooting enough? Or was it the despicable, unrepentant comments by LaPierre and NRA whore/paid actor Loesch that helped these companies decide to ax their relationships with the NRA?
